Dyno #'s

Well I went to the dyno today. I peaked 110 hp @4600 rpm and 146 ft lbs o torque @ 3600 rpm. These readings are at the wheels. The hp curve climbs really well and the torque curve is just awesome. Its really really broad. One of the guys watching said the curve looks like a mustang torque curve. Sweet. Well anyway I figure the car is breathing well on the exhaust end, its the heads and intake plenums that arent too effecient so I'm porting my plenums next. Here are the bolt ons I can still buy: pulley, Accel DIS supercoils, 59mm throttle body, and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I'm still porting the plenums, but I want to buy another bolt on too. So what should I buy? Keeping hp in mind here. A company will sell me a 59mm TB for $150, compared to the stock 54mm TB. I hope I'll see good improvements. Well I can wait to tell the SI guys that I only have 110 hp, I'll leave the torque #'s out of it. Hehehe.

Later.

Aaron,

Those are VERY good numbers for your car! When you consider flywheel HP for that car new was 125, and torque was 155, you're doing damn good

And as I can sense some angry "But I thought 2.8 MPFIs put out 135hp?" posts coming, let me explain!! The intakes on the Z24s are more restrictive than ours, which don't allow the car to have as much HP. Also, the exhaust manifolds may be a little more restrictive too...this I'm not 100% sure about. But if you consider the engine is mounted transversely in an engine bay never meant for a V6, I gotta think there was a lack of space for manifolds.

Regardless, good luck with whatever you do and welcome to the board!

I got ya monkey wrench

I saw you talking about Si guys so I thought I would go ahead and post this also.. This was on mine with the bottle, and your putting on right about the same amount of torque on your N/A setup as mine with the bottle.. That gives you some serious power.. I peaked out at 161 hp when I shut the bottle off at 7K rpms, I didn't much like spraying my car on the dyno, kind of made me nervous, but my the graph if would have hit right at 174hp at the wheels or so. That's before any other mods too, so pretty much those are 2 stock runs, and 1 on the N.O.S. like you guys care anyways..

Nice run, Aaron! How much did the dyno cost you?

You might want to also check out the B&M "Newvolt". It gives your stock DIS ignition coils some more juice. Go to http://www.bmracing.com (click on "global"), and click on "Sport Compact Racing Products"... the NewVolt is described there. You can also download the instruction sheet from the main B&M page, under "Downloads" (an inch or so below "sport compact ... ". It can be used on GM Vehicles, even though it's in the sport compact section.

YOu could also get an MSD DIS-4 ignition system, but it'll be $300-something, compared to the $100 of the NewVolt (thru Summit Racing).

Thanks ya'll! Well I'm buying the TB from a place called RS Motorsport. The dyno cost 65 for 3 runs. Not bad, the people were pretty cool too. I'll look into buying that new volt. It looks pretty cool. Good luck on your car in the future ShinerBockSI!
