The transmission in my 92' Firebird with the 3.1 just went out. I want to put the tranny out of my 86' with a 2.8 in it. It has a shift kit and is in good shape. I know the bolt patern is the same but am not sure about the VSS sensor. If the VSS is not the same can I swap the tailshafts on the trannies? Thanks for the help.

Yup, the VSS will be different; your '86 has a cable coming out of the tailshaft housing- the VSS is in the back of the speedometer. The '92 has the VSS inside the tailshaft. The tailshaft swap sounds like the best idea- plus, you won't have to mess with getting the right speedo gear. Good luck with the swap! Let us know how it goes!
