Aluminum Driveshaft

Is an aluminum driveshaft really worth it? What kind of performance or gas mileage improvements can I expect to see?

Fuel economy shouldn't be affected.. doesn't change how your engine runs or your gears so it's not a point there.. acceleration should improve as there's less rotational mass to spin up, and they're usually balanced alot better than the stock ones, thus far less driveshaft jitter at high speeds.. however they won't compensate for other drivetrain vibrations as well as stock from what I've read.

I agree. The two biggest advantages of an aluminum driveshaft is less rotational mass, thus helping acceleration and higher critical speeds due to better balancing.

The total weight savings over a steel driveshaft is not a lot, though noticeable. If there is any fuel savings, it would be minimal.

If you want to get an aluminum driveshaft, scour the wrecking yards for a later model IROC, Z28, Formula or GTA with TPI engine, preferable a 305 5 speed or the L98. As an "acid test", put a magnet against it. If it is aluminum, it won't stick. The light grey color will also be a good clue as aluminum has a ligher color and does not rust.
