I just noticed the ground for my alternator was not attached to anything...umm...could that cause wild erratic missing and eventually no ignition? Wow am I about to feel like a dumbass...

Even IF that was the cause, you've got a great igniton system now.
You be very thankful for that, when you do your swap.
You'll also have more powerful current engine & better fuel milage & better throttle response.

Ground.. for.. alternator.... which wire is that? All I know of is the (+) wire on the terminal on the back, and the two-pin connector for the voltage regulator. I always thought our alternator grounded out through the mounting brackets.
But yeah if you had low voltage, that would kill your spark pretty quickly! How did the rebuild go? Are you back on the road?

Ya they ground through the mounting bracket ive learnt that many many times its cool to wacth sparks fly tho.
