Need Help ASAP
its not so much the problem thats gotten me confused because i know what is wrong, but i just need someone that knows how to fix it, its got me stumped.
the problem: is that when i turn my key nothing happens, its just loose
the cause: the actuator rod inside the steering column popped off the actuator rack
now i can't for the life of me figure out how it connects back onto the actuator rack. i can reach inside with screw drive and fidget and get it to start, but how in the world does it connect, permanently...heheh. plus that plastic housing is completely in the way (you know right under the gauges) and i can't figure out how to move that either.
does anyone now anything about the steering colum and the ignigtion that would know how they connect back together....

Ouch! I don't know anything about that spot, but maybe this'll move the message up top for someone else to see!

hey thanks tom, yea its quite a pickle. but vader helped with a nice diagram but we couldn't figure out how to get inside that plastic housing so we threw in the towel and dropped it off at the shop last night....i'll be sure to update it with info just for the future....thanks
heres the update. the mechanic took the steering column apart and found that just about everything in the column was bent and broken. when i tilted the wheel up a bunch of things broke and bent some more, causing the key not to work. sooooo, 300 bucks later (and thats with a deal on labor) my steering column is bran-spanken new....great! always wanted onle of those....so just and update
YOu broke, what is called the steering rack.
Part costs about $35 or les. It's all labor.
I did mine in my S-10 Blazer about 10 times, it held, now I have to rebuild for #11.THERE IS NO WAY TO BATTLE THIS.
The part is cast & it breaks.
WHAT I DO SUGGEST, is that you hold the top of the wheel as you let it "tilt" back up. That takes some pressure off the unit. Don't let it go boing! up position. Hold it and let it go up.
$300? wow, I've paid $150 w/part.
But, it's done. Drive & enjoy.
