Hey Tom, hopefully u can bail me outta this one. Recently i did a 1.6 rocker swap, and had to take out the fuel rail in the process. Put everything back, and it doesnt idle. Im under the impression its not getting fuel to idle. I unplugged the MAF relay at the extra battery box, and what do u know, the car starts and idles (somewhat) so obviously the MAF is saying no fuel when its trying to idle. I bought a new relay, and plugged it all back in, same thing no idle. Unplugged it, idles. The maf is new too. Now, i checked the codes and im running a 34 (maf) and 54 (fuel pump) Now, before u mentioned a fuel pump fuse somewhere else besides the fuse panel. Where is this? Could this be a reason? Is there another MAF relay or fuse im missing?

My fuel pump relay is on the pass side fender. Just behind the evap canister. Mine again is a 92 3.1...its a black relay like most of the others in the car...

So all you touched was the fuel rail? Did you use new o-rings on the injectors? Maybe a few o-rings tore and are creating a huge vacuum leak? Is there a leak at the cold-start-injector's supply line? It took me a while to hook my cold start's line back into the rail; I kept crossthreading the f'ing thing.

I wonder if your connector for the MAF is worn out. Mine was... the car would be running great, and if I wiggled the wires going to the MAF, the car would stall & set code 34 on me. I wound up replacing the whole MAF part of the harness with a junkyard piece; the MAF fuse, MAF relay, MAF connector, and the three wires going back towards the computer. Give that MAF connector a wiggle test!

The other fuel pump fuse should be on the upper frame rail, passenger side, by the airbox. It's next to the MAF fuse; they're little boxes held on with one screw and have two wires going to each. One has a red & brown wire, that's for the MAF. The other fuse holder with the red & orange wire is for the fuel pump.

If both fuses are okay, there's another possibility- a bad source to them. Both run to the positive junction block, which is located below your MAF relay. I had a bad ring terminal on the red wire for the fuel pump fuse- but that bad ring terminal wouldn't let my car start- without codes or SES lights! That fuel pump fuse also powers the computer... so I'm thinking it might not be the problem... otherwise you wouldn't have been able to pull the codes. My mechanic's diagnostic computer was telling him "no computer found" when he hooked into my car.

You could check for power at the fuel pump relay, though. There might be a short in the line that's letting your computer get power, but not your fuel pump relay. Your relays are different than my '86's (mine look square, aren't yours a bit rounded at the edges?) but hopefully the location and wire colors are the same. My fuel pump relay is the leftmost one, and has the wire colors tan/white, black/white, green/white, orange, orange. Check for power on the (oops be back soon) (i'm back) orange wire going to terminal "E" of the relay- this is CKT 340, which comes off the fuel pump fuse.
