any way to test MAF?

Hey guys, the MAF sensor on my friends car is throwing a code. And we took it to the shop, they said it was shot, and doesn't work. BUt his car pretty much works perfect, the only thng that happends is when he lets of the gas it will drop to like 800 then go to about 1500. and when he stops it barley idles rough. not at all like a messed up MAF should idle, is there anyway to test the MAF so we can tell exactly wut its doing?

The good way to know if ur MAF is shot, is when in the car just unplug it and drive with it, it shouldnt be able run at all with the MAF unplugged, after try plugging it back in and if its still the same, MAF is shot

another easy way is to start the car go under the hood and gently tap the MAF. If your car stalls then it's bad

That sounds like a bad MAF to me...

The other tests work great, and there's also a visual inspection- remove the MAF from the intake tubing, and look inside. You'll see the orange "frequency film". That film needs to be completely FLAT; no wrinkles or creases or curves are allowed. If it's damaged (not flat), the MAF sensor's bad.

How many miles?
Have you check the timing chain for stretch & wear?
