best rear end gear

Car: 1986 Firebird
Engine: 2.8 V6
Transmission: 700R4
Actually, he's probably got a 3.08 rear gear inside that car. I think 3.08's were for 82 & 83 V6's (with 3-speed automatics), and 3.23's were for 1984 V6's with the introduction of the 4-speed automatic. 85-89 MPFI v6's would have the 3.42 as a rear gear.
But yeah, putting an 85-89 rear axle underneath your car would give you 3.42's, and you should feel a noticable difference. If you want more info on that swap, just ask!
