Why is it import guys aren't afraid of cams, nos, custom headers, but us; with our v6's are always looking for snake oil speed. It should be a link, all new members read this first and there we should include the best mods to do to your 2.8 and 3.1....

A few guesses...
1. They don't pay for it
2. They don't do the work
3. They don't need their car (work/college/etc) if it has to be holed up for a week
4. They have magazines dedicated to their cars & engines
5. They don't care about emissions
6. More stuff is marked for their exact car; we have to be hot-rodders and adapt parts

Out in CA, I tell you Tom's number five is 100% correct.
My machinist works on those heads.
Next door is a ***** burner shop.
Recently saw one of those Rice cookers trailered to the races! Behind a Mazda Pick up truck, that looked awfully stock (including under that Mazda hood, too, I'll bet!).
The majority of those ricers somehow get passed emissions testing or have lots of time to take parts off for emissions testing.
ME?
I just increase displacement for better performance.
I still want to add a NOS system to my car, after I play with it at Carlsbad Raceway.
