89 firebird...noise

89 firebird...noise

Have a 89 firebird...2.8 v6.....wife drove it home the other day and it is makeing this awful noise..<<like a crunching sound<>>...there seems to be no visible oil leaks...it makes this noise in gear and out of gear any sugestions on problem...scared to go to a meachanic and getting ripped off..thanks

Give some more details. Auto., or stick? Where does the noise come from?

Have to agree with that one. Sounds like? Moving parked? Revving idle? rough area of the noise? look at the brakes if squeeling...

One possibility is that one of your calipers is damaged and your brake pad is sticking. It could be engine related or something else entirely. I only say the brakes because I had that problem once.
