I would do as Graeme said... I would say the best way to shield yourself from such attacks is to use a secure operating system which gives you more control over your computer... I have stopped a couple of stupid hackers from screwing me over because I was running Windows 2000 Professional... I can't say anything bad about Win 2000 Pro and Win NT 4.0 Other than that, get some good software designed to "protect and serve" your system... Firewalls are not as good as they used to be, but they can give you a head start if an attack does occur...

Edit: Attacks can range from someone downloading something off your computer, to deleting important data and worst of all is if you have credit card info or the such on your computer, they can find that too...

my programm from www.zonelabs.com (it's a free download for personal use)
gave this:
The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (NetBIOS Name) from 217.52.60.102 (NetBIOS Name).

with this prog. I could follow the way back and got him in egypt.
