Er, well, parts of it shine! I did the roof and the back 1/4 panels. Usually I use Meguiar's three-step Crystal system (cleaner, polish, then wax), but this time, I put in a 4th step. It's one of Meguiar's "pro" series bottles, "swirl mark remover 2.0" in a yellow bottle for $15. I used it after the polish, and before the wax. Wow! Those pieces of the car actually look like dark-blue metallic again; instead of the cloud-gray-blue.

I'll post what I did up on the appearance board; I was using an electric buffer (random orbit). I'll see if I can get to the rest of the car this weekend.

By hand won't be too bad; after I did it on Saturday, I went out to admire it on Sunday. I saw a bunch of faint scratches on the piece of the quarter panel that goes "horizontal", by the window. The scratches were on that little ledge between the door window and the hatch window. I put some of the Swirl Remover 2.0 on a rag, and rubbed that spot pretty good. What's cool about this stuff is the bottle says "work the area until nearly dry"- so I don't have to stop rubbing (or buffing), wait for it to dry, and rub it off. I kept rubbing until there was a light film left, then I wiped it away- the shine was back (no scratches). I put the wax on over it- and I still couldn't see the scratches. My whole car is scratched to snot from my first experience with the buffer... this stuff seems like it might be my escape ticket. I put up a long message about how I buffed the car under the Appearance board. I wrote about the type of pads to use, how I applied the polishes to the car, how I removed the polish, how to wash the bonnets, etc... (hey, it was lunchtime, I was bored!)
