So whats the plan? The Pace Setter headers will work? How hard would it be for a muffler shop to get 3.4L headers to work? And are the stock 3.4L headers any different than the 3.1L ones?

Yes, Pacesetters work.
Depends on the shop... they might not want to touch it, and charge $8599 to bend 'em.
They'll bolt to the heads, but they won't "fit" in the car without hitting a frame rail or two. According to 3.1Firebird (where the hell is he these days? Anyone know?), the driver's side collector needs to be bent "outward", away from the engine block, to go "straighter back". He said the passenger side one hits the firewall, so he had to bend it down, and either to the left or right (he couldn't remember).

Are these Pacesetters smog legal?
For what application?
Any decent muffler shop should be will to install headers and make them fit. Plan on being there to guide them for the "fitting"!!.

hey whats up TomP! I ussually just lurk around these days.
You are correct with your description of what to do. Driver side header ALMOST fits. It slightly rubs against the motor crossmember, so you have to bend it towards the firewall a little bit.
Passenger side is a PITA, it rubs up around the firewall, so you have to bend it straight down and to the L or the R, cant remember, but its somewhat of a challenge since you have to clear the starter.
All you really need is a vice to hold the headers while you heat and bend them. A long pipe to bend the headers with. And a torch to heat the headers with.
hat you do is heat the header primary tubes while they are held in a vice until they start glowing a dull pink, then you insert the pipe into the collector and start bending the way you want it to go. Let them cool, then test fit, then repeat if needed.
Once they fit then engine bay you must get a good muffler shop to make you a custm y-pipe, so have to drive open headered to do this. Make sure the muffler shop is good otherwise you will get a POS y-pipe like I have which is restricting my flow. The passenger side collector comes out at a wierd angle, so it takes a tight turn to get to connect to the y-pipe. Make sure the muffler shop makes this turn with a big diameter pipe and makes it as smooh as possible, o you get as uch flow as you can.
The headers knocked off abetween 1.-.2tenths from the 1/4, but I must add that since doing the gears/headers, my car is much quicker out of the hole thus my traction now sucks, so gains might have been greater if I had good traction. Just cruising around town the headers made the car feel like accerated much more smoothly.
