1984 camaro 2.8 v6 wont stay running! code 54 MCS help?
1984 camaro 2.8 v6 wont stay running! code 54 MCS help?
okay so my 84 camaro 2.8 v6 carburated wont stay running
i am getting code 54 i turned the idle up with the screw on the front of the carb and play'd with the screw on the pass side of the carb. so i got it to stay idling for longer while the chokes on. when i turn the key to the on position i hear a clicking like a fuel pump. i dont know if it really is the fuel pump since it is a mechanical fuel pump, but i have heard that the Mixture control soelinoid (dont know how to spell it) can also make a clicking sound like that, and the MCS can throw code 54.
so my questions are what exactly does the MCS look like, how do you test the fuel pump. and what else could i check out to see whats throwing the code, i already changed the fuel filter
thank you

Your fuel pump should be mounted on the engine, the 84 2.8s had mechanical fuel pumps. The MC solenoid does make a clicking noise, you have to check the dwell of the solenoid. Make sure your getting 12v to the choke by using a volt meter. Check the choke pull off diapram w/ a vacuum pump.

Another thing that you can do is a carb swap. These varijets arent the best carbs to come from rochester. Do a search on member Beleneagle, he did the swap & is very happy. It requires an intake swap, different distibutor, some drilling, tapping, ect. It also eliminates you ecm too.
