Vacuum hose??

So I got this hose here that was like this when I bought the car a few years ago with a screw in it. I kinda let it go since it didn't seem to affect the car. I'm just curious where it goes? I looked at a schematic of the emission hoses and it looked like it went to a part called vac. sw. but not sure. If you look at the picture and you know please let me know!

The EGR valve solenoid is the name of the part that the hose is connected to , and the end with the screw in it is supposed to be connected to the device right next to the solenoid that is mounted to the same bracket with it . Looking from the front of the engine , first is the EGR valve itself , behind it is the EGR solenoid , and behind THAT is the device I refer to . I know at a first glance the unit behind the solenoid looks like just some kind of wiring terminal , but it's actually a vacuum switch to tell the computer that the solenoid has commanded the EGR valve open . It's highly likely that the little plastic tit has broken off of the switch , and that's why the hose is capped off with the screw .

Tell me , do you get any check engine light while it's running ?

Actually sometimes my check engine does come on and I checked it and its a code 32.

Re: Vacuum hose??

Thanks for the help! I found where it went behind the solenoid! It had a old tiny piece of hose on it so I couldn't see it but when I pulled off the ripped piece there was the little plastic tip to put the hose back on! Thanks again!

Great ! Now , hopefully that code 32 will stay away . Code 32 is EGR failure , and with that switch now reporting the proper EGR action to the computer , all should be well . The computer commands the EGR solenoid to open the EGR valve . The switch senses this application of vacuum to the EGR valve and reports to the computer that yes , in fact the vac signal is being sent from the EGR solenoid to the EGR valve . The computer then looks for the corresponding change in signal from the 02 sensor , proving with certainty that the EGR valve did , in fact , open .

Ok great! I cleared the code so hopefully does not come back! It usually came on when I hit the highway so we shall see.
