Small Exit on Waterpump

Hello everyone, I was wondering what the small exit/hole on the waterpump that goes to the passenger side is there for? I'm putting in a 2.8L engine without being fully aware of how everything was, I'm extremely close to being finished entirely. Right now I am flushing the cooling system with water, but it keeps spouting out of that hole, I do have a hose that fits on there and is in the vicinity. The hose runs back to the heater, I think, which is on the passenger side of the car where there'd otherwise be a glove compartment (in most cars)? And I do believe that the coolant should be flowing through there to the heater, but I want to be 100% sure before I seriously mess something up over there. Would be grateful if someone would be able to either verify this or correct me and/or provide extra information, thanks in advance!

The hose connected to the left upper output (seen from in front of the car) goes to the passenger side of the motor compartiment where it is connects to a steel pipe that feeds the 3-way connector for the cabine heater.
There is also a small hole somewhere in the middle of the waterpump that is only there for the event the internal gasket blows so water can escape through that tiny hole (but i don't think that you ment that hole).
Amazing : 2 people from different european countries speaking the same language conversing in english on a USA-forum; What a small world it is.
If you want pics, send me a pm.

Alright, many thanks for the info, I can continue flushing it now without having to be as worried! Perhaps we even have the same mother tongue actually? Or perhaps you are a Walloon (French-speaking Belgian)? I regularly think about it the same way as you do actually!

Inderdaad! ;P

Now when I'm filling it up by the radiator it'll start leaking pretty seriously at the back of the engine by the firewall (running past the flywheel), something I forgot to connect? Since it's very hard to reach or even see what's going on, will it be a complete pain to fix? The engine was swapped completely, but I wasn't there when the previous one was disconnected, hence I have these problems.

Both problems were due to intake gasket leak.

Oh my.. I went under the car and it seems to be leaking from the oil pan / sump gasket, in the corner at the driver's side, quite odd to my idea. Going to try to fix it, anything else that might be seriously wrong when this is happening? Maybe I'm having quite some bad luck having a seal or even multiple gaskets torn?

These hoses also leak when I refill the radiator, what could I do with them?

Re: Small Exit on Waterpump

Wait a minute!! Isn't the exit on the waterpump supposed to be connected to the holes on the throttle body through some hoses and a pipe that splits near the end?

Edit: Here I'm showing with a quick drawing how I saw it is on my spare / donor engine, could it be I connected it completely wrong? And should do it this way instead (the way it is on the spare engine)? And do I need to connect a hose or something at the back of the engine (by the firewall) as well? Have I possibly been flushing the wrong thing with water?

Re: Small Exit on Waterpump

The right one is the inlet into the throttle body and the other is the outlet from the throttle body that goes into the block

So you are saying the small arrow on the left should be the other way around then? But the rest is as it should be? Thanks for the additional information, makes sense now! ;]

Re: Small Exit on Waterpump

also that hose that comes out of the exit hole is suppose to go to the heater core.

Re: Small Exit on Waterpump

This should answer your question about the other two hoses that aren't connected to anything and just leak.

Re: Small Exit on Waterpump

Alright, great, man! Many thanks, couldn't find this anywhere, even the repair guide used a generic illustration of a cooling system that did not add up at all, so this is amazing. But the current setup I have is like a heater delete setup or something like that then? Again, many thanks for the illustrations, will further examine it once I get home from work!

Re: Small Exit on Waterpump

Turns out the other leak was from a freeze plug as far as I can see, going to remove the transmission next week when new freeze plugs will be arriving.
