Hey everyone, i haven't been on here in a while, as my camaro is running near perfect. But i just bought a 84 2.8 v6 5-speed for $500, great body, near perfect interior. But anyway the car drove all the way home (70 miles), it runs alright on the highway, but when im stopped, and i try to accelerate, it acts like it wants to die. It cuts out, and back in, and with several jerks, if I hit the gas harder the car will go(to drive it i pretty much have to act like im racing).

I found one problem which was a bad grommet on the drivers side valve cover where the vacuum line runs in(forgot the little metal piece name). that made the car idle much better. After a test drive if i baby the car it will drive fine, just really slow, with more acceleration the car cuts out like it did but not as much.

I can't find any more vacuum leaks(did smoke test). What should i look for now???

 

Carbureted? Sounds like the accelerator pump. Look in the carb wile working the throttle for a steady stream from the squirters. Should squirt from very little throttle movement.

 

It does shoot a stream, it it supposed to be continuous??? it shoots out then stops, car still runs though.

 

Not continuous as in never ending, but a steady stream. About a full second when moved to wide open, and start flowing with little movement of the throttle.

 

ok, i don't know how i looked over this, but there is only one cable (throttle) going to the main throttle, the choke and wot are not connected, but the car runs great at high acceleration. when idling when it starts to bod a bit, i close the choke a little and it revs up perfect. Does anyone have a pic of the right springs/arms for a 2.8 2barrel carb???

 

update: replaced plugs, runs a lot better, but is still choppy on takeoff...
