Idle Air Control Valve Problems

My I.A.C. valve had a malfunction. I did not know at the time, but I assume it was the cause of my low idle on cold starts. The low idle would soon turn to a very high idle. Just before my car cut off on me and now won't start (current situation). I noticed I was gaining speed will not on the gas, hmm?! So I tested my theory. From a stopped position, I slowly came off the clutch giving the car no gas. And what do you know the car would accelerate, no gas pedal needed. I could do this all the way up to 4th gear. But anyways, I just replaced the IAC valve today, but my baby still will not start. Did something F'up when the car died on me because if the high idle / accelerating problem? Please! Spydey needs your help with the Spyder-Mobile!!

Have you cleaned the intake and the IAC galleries? The water temp sensor just behind it is a factor too so check that. Then other stuff. As for the no start does it fire but not start or not even fire? If no fire then you'll need to start looking at injectors etc.

No I haven't, I'm pretty much of a rookie.I read, test what I've read, and learn as I go. I just tested the spark plugs, by placing one on top of the engine to see if it had a spark. No spark, could this be a fuse problem? Buying new plugs and wires tomorrow as well as cleaning the areas you mentioned. Is there a method that you would recommend in doing the process?

The intake and IAC can be cleaned in place but it's easier to do if the upper plenum is removed and you take the throttle body off and open up the IAC part. Read about replacing the IAC valve. Another reason for removing the upper plenum is you can test the injector resistance and check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line for any gas smell. The injector resistance should be around 13 ohms for all the injectors. If any are significantly lower replace them all. If you smell gas in the FPR vacuum line replace the diaphragm. As for the no spark you'll have to start checking fuses, distributor etc. etc.

Thanks a lot! I just replaced my spark plugs, doing the wires tomorrow. I'm going to look at the fuse box under the driver side dash today. Which fuse specifically should I focus on?

Should be labelled. If not check them all. Been a very long time since I had to look at the fuses. Do you have a manual? If not you should get one with the wiring diagrams. A Chilton's is good enough.
