Maf questions+other cel codes
Ok first things first I've done the following...
Plugs.
Fuel filter.
Maf relay.
And tried a buddy's used maf.
I'm getting codes for egr (It can be blocked off correct?), 02 sensor, 33&34 maf codes. Now after all this I still have a fish bite of a miss under a load crappy idle so low it'll kill it self (which smoothed out real decent after used maf and relay but went back after test drive/warmed up) harder restarts. I've checked both power wire and ground with a test light at the maf an the relay and I am getting juice on both, now how do I check the maf itself? I tried a dmv and got nothing (I'm no electrician not even sure I had it in the right sitting) can someone point me in the right direction what setting for dmv do I need to be on, what wires to prob, and what is a good healthy maf suppose to read under throttle and off.
I just picked this 86 up a week ago, it did buck real hard coming up the mountain but now after these things it runs a bit better, I'm just trying to get it running right before i start my resto mod on it I'm a body man not real good with wiring or electric stuff so I'd appreciate all the help I can mustard.

Re: Maf questions+other cel codes
Not sure if this will help but
a MAF sensor is very delicate/sensitive to flow. The path air takes through it must be straight, without turbulence. If you have modified or altered the OEM path the air takes through a MAF you may have disturbed it, and that can cause many fuel issues, stumbing, idle problems, power problems, anything is possible. You need a relatively straight tube on both sides of the maf sensor, and keep it away from turbochargers and throttle bodies where airflow is more likely to be disturbed.

Re: Maf questions+other cel codes
Just gonna block the egr, but since I can't find a direct way of testing the maf I guess just replace it...? It ain't like it would hurt being 30yrs old.

Re: Maf questions+other cel codes
Hi there,
I had similar problems. I bought a used MAF, supposed to be good, it was also bad. I got a new one from Rock Auto, now code 34 is gone, and nice smooth idle.

Re: Maf questions+other cel codes
Yeah I'll probably go with a new maf...
Had a few mins waiting on things to dry at the shop, so I made a block off plate for the intake manifold and plug welded the egr port on the exhaust manifold. Now all the junk egr is gone.
