Paid 2 Grand for it, good interior a few tiny dings. I put in about 500 bux worth of motor, 1000 bux for a tranny rebuild. That's about it.

Seems ever since the F Body car has stopped production, the prices have actually risen.
Grab the best most complete ones ya can.
Who's counting how many times I've said hi on this thread?

WOW,

Now I dont feel so bad that I paid 2900.00

89 Bird with aero package
one owner
74,000 when I got her in Feb 2004 (77,016 now)
T-Tops
Mint interior
Paint has the dreaded Gm dullness that wax cant even help (paint to come soon)

Few things I have had to do right after I got her

(1) rebuilt 700R4 after figting with teh trans shop for a month now shes shifting right at last!

(2) Heater Core

My car dont have any mod's besides a Jvc Cd Player and sub box in the trunk, and those really dont count as mod's now days, just a perk to driving it.

The car runs like a dream for what she is and her age, is shocking to see so 95ish and newer cars that are beat to death and blown up compared to her.

** Hey I cant drive 55** Our car's are almost just a like (besides the red paint and my trans going bad so early!

Car: 85 firebird
Engine: Pos 2.8 pulled and replaced with a 350 tpi motor converted to carb.
Transmission: 700r4, vette servo, shift kit, hayden 15"x8" trans cooler.
$700 with 104k on it because it had so many vaccume leaks it wouldnt stay running. It had 3 dents, one next to each tail lite that i have since fixed, and one in the pass side door , ill eventually replace the door. Also the head liner was beat. I now have none.

So far ive replaced the coil a head gasket and the intire cooling fan wiring with a hayden adjustable unit.. Might sound like little in the way of stuff going wrong but the coil left me with a $90 tow home and the head gasket went on xmas night.

After working on the 2.8 i can not wait to pull it out and drop the v8 in.

Also the one thing i can not stand is the color of the car! Off white SUCKS!!!!

$3700 for a 92 3.1 with 112,000 miles.

kinda steep price, but it was THE cleanest third gen i have ever seen in real life. it was way more clean than my 48k Iroc. had it for about a year and a half and never had to do a single repair. paint was perfect too....the only thing i ever didnt like about it was the power...hence the reason i sold it in january for $3300

edit: RS on the right obviously

$1100 for my car. Best condition I could find any camaro in that was for sale anywhere remotely near me in Maine with a 5speed. Very little rust in remote locations that I need to take care of, very little, and I now need a new clutch. Came with a new paint job and had no problems other than the slight bit of rust.

Paid 10,500 for my 1986 in 1987 with 26k miles on it. Was about the most stripped down version of a Firebird you could get since it was actually a car that was from Enterprise rental agency. No gauges, AM/FM ETR radio (no tape), no remote hatch release, no power windows, no power door locks, no power windows. Matter of fact, the only options the car has is Cruise control and Air. It even had the Rally II steel wheels (which ended up on my GTO)

Before they brought the car up for the sale, they took it to a customize shop and had a set of Cars&Concepts T-tops put it. This was probably the best maintained car that I have every seen, I got a folder with every service paper done, any time anything was done to the car I have a copy of the receipt. The car now has 207k miles on it, getting ready to put the 4th tranny in (gotta love the 700R4) and went through 5 alternators until I found a correct 97 amp that would stay together.

Mine doesn't have a smog pump on it, has 3 belts, two V-belts and one 4 rib for the alternator.

The car is Silver top, charcoal on the bottom, with black interior, which is getting hard to find replacement seat covers for since the car has the highback seats.

If anyone knows of a place where I can get these, let me know.

Ya, but when you live here in Vancouver and you own a white car, you have to wash it every other day. So I guess the question is, why would anyone who lives in a climate like this want a white car? Red is still the best car colour there is.

Car: 1987 Firebird Formula
Engine: 3.4L 207 V6
Transmission: T5 W/C
$900 for the Formula w/ a blown 305 (too much nitrous), no wiring, and no interior. Got it running w/ the parts from the 89 that had been totalled. Since November of 2002, I have spent over $13,000 upgrading the body, interior, suspension, drivetrain and engine. The best pass I had on the car was last weekend w/ a 15.4 @ 84 mph on a slipping clutch. A couple of passes later, the clutch was disintegrated. It was a dual friction and now its a no friction. The friction material on both sides of the clutch were peeled off. I had only 700 odd miles on the clutch and it appears that the pressure plate was not clamping down correctly on the disc so it was slipping since day one. I have complete record of my upgrades on the website.

I am expecting at least 14s when I get the clutch taken care of and even better times when I get the fuel mapping tuned.
Jim

3200 for a '92 red firebird with a trans am front end practically perfect interior and exterior...aftermarket stereo...aftermarket american racing wheels...and a 120,000 3.1 v6...but i saved in the long run on gas and insurance...

forgot about my '84 TA with the 305 L69...i only paid 350 for it...its got a dent by the gas tank...needs new paint...has t-tops...no stereo...overheats...and needs a pretty much all new interior...but had air shocks in the back...and aftermarket rims and new tires on all four...and has never been registered or insured...so im savin cash there too...

Car: 1986 Pontiac Firebird
Engine: 173 ci Multiport Fuel Injection V-6

I got my 1986 Firebird for $250. Minor surface rust along the rocker panels, shot faded paint, a running knocking motor, ripped seats, cut front seat belts, rusted doors with about 2 inches gone off the bottom of the drivers side, camaro hatch, camaro hood, shot front drivers fender, missing console flashlight, broke plastic steering column, silicon full passengers side door lock, console door cracked, missing stock amp, and radio and broken, unhooked power antenna, 2 firebird center caps, missing black lug nut covers, minor small half moon cut on the back carpet and shot hood springs, but there were more new parts than anything:new sony detachable face stereo with the new pod attachment, new altenator, new radiator, new belts and hoses, fairly new battery (under a year old), new flow master exhaust, new looking factory steering wheel with horn button, new looking dash and gauges, 4 new Kelly Charger tires (wider, bigger tires on back), mint never been used spare tire with auto inflater, nice interior panels and head liner, nice tail lights, new hatch struts, recently changed oil, working A/C, new starter, working power windows and came with a Lock-It steel steering wheel collar, and didnt leak. Other than that it is the most basic firebird ever, only power option was power windows, hard top not T-Tops like i wanted, factory suspension, no hatch cover, auto tranny, V-6 (with 124,814 original miles), no spoiler, cloth seats, non power locks, no fog lights, no power hatch, and no cruise control. But still it was a damn good deal for $250 with a valid title, 1988 chilton book, like new owners manual, and recently ran out inspection stickers. Heck i sold the mint dash pad, door panels, arm rests, center trunk lock cover with silver firebird logo on it, and some other minor parts i cant remember right now for about $400 so i really got the car for free and got paid $100.

Right now I wish I had only paid the original $800 the previous owner wanted for me to take the 87 out of his yard. But, instead, to get him off my back, I paid him his additional $200. I went out last March, the day I was returning home (don't ask cuz I ain't telling) got my $810 out of the bank, and went over to the guys house to give him his $800 to get the car. On the way home, damn starter was strange at that time, so I had to stop for gas and the thing wouldn't start, so I end up breaking the heater control valve and losing most of my coolant. A sign of things to come? Maybe...
Anyways, I bought the Firebird with 194,676 miles, supposedly 10K since the engine was rebuilt. There was only a small splinter of the air dam mounted to the rad support and there was a dent in the passenger side fender. Not only that, but I got two leaky front tires, bad vac lines all around, oil that looked like sludge, leaking t-tops, broken hatch pulldown, and 2/3 of the car covered in primer because the previous owner was starting a repaint of the car after a pass side quarter panel replacement. I also got a free set of American Racing rims, but they only have 3 center caps, ! The only things good in the spare tire well were the tire and jack, and the breaker bar and replacement x-shaped wheel lug wrench. Also, within two weeks, I had to dissassemble the steering column to fix a broken turn signal wire that killed both my tails and turn signal fuses. The interior was a mess (took 10 min to get all of the garbage out of it before I left for home the day I bought the car) with a worn out console, loose trim paneling, and a broken radio pod, not to mention the huge rust colored stain in the passenger's footwell carpet. Over the past year, I do believe that around $1200 in parts has gone to the car, and it is still not quite right yet...

Forgot to mention that the previous owner had used the car for TOWING... I just removed the trailer wiring harness the other day and also have noticed he notched the replacement rear bumper to fit around the hitch.. :nono:

Until it starts to fade.

I got my 87 Camaro SC with about 170,000 miles on it for $500, Canadian.

Hatch pulldown was dead, and taken apart, and then strewn about the back of the car. All four tires were pretty much bare, the O2 sensor was dead, it's got some paint peeling on the hood and fascia, and a Hurst shift **** was tacked on, I guess because they lost the clip that held it normally.. I haven't been able to get it off yet. But on the plus side, it came with a nice panasonic deck, decent JBL's front and back, and the cleanest interior I've seen in a while, and a GT Grant steering wheel.

New tires and O2 cost more than the car. Fixed the pulldown, but it was finicky and bothered me, so was replaced with the assembly I saved from my 82 Z. I don't need my hatch pulled down for me. Dead A/C and a useless smog pump came out, rear brakes, outer tie rod ends and new switches for the power windows, and now I'm just waiting on money for a decent carbed 8. After all the headaches of the smog tests with the fuel injection, I can't wait for it.

Edit.. friggin angelfire and it's not liking URL's being linked

I paid $600 it ran fine no headliner Rusty dented hood. Interior is in bad shape. I have put over $2000 into it and it doesn't even run now . I might junk it I might store it or I might just get a sledge hammer and start beating it then push it into the river.

300 bucks

I paid 3 c-notes for the car - rust on the doors, hatch and inside spare tire compartment (I can see the ground - huh?) as well as faded white paint. 2.8 that runs terribly, 700R4 that needs help (OD is wierd) and no convertor. One headlight refuses to go up or down (need a module, I already eliminated the usual suspects) so I can't even get the car registered in my name until it can pass safety inspections... driver's door doesn't even have provisions for locking it, interior is shot (all those durn water leaks from somewhere) and the jerry-rigged temp gage doens't light up. Only one speaker works. Tires are mis-matched and the rally rims are corroding, along with missing the silver centercaps.

But it's paid for and it runs and it's MINE! Well, as soon as I can get the title changed over, it will be technically...

Why the Buick GNX was Black.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Dale Earnhardt/#3 Monte Carlo copy cat color combo! Dale was on top of NASCAR at that time.
My only thought!
YET, IF I recall the TV/Print Ads, the Black played real well as it burst outta the billowing clouds of tire smoke!
I gotta Red car and luckily it's Mille Miglia Red (Magnum PI Ferrari Red!) and on my 1974 Corvette!
I just saw the White & accent strip combo I'll consider painting on my Firebird. Was on a Camaro, looked decent.

no air intake system
exhaust was rotted like nobodys biz
Bad Battery
4 fairly new tires
Full Kenwood deck, changer, and factory replacement speakers.

I made the car start in his driveway with 25 bux in parts, battery from another car, 1 hour of time, and jumper cables. I think he was slightly pissed. I then drove it home 30'ish miles w/o breaks and in 2nd gear

Car: 1984 Camaro
Engine: 2.8L V6 2BBL (yeah I know...)
Transmission: 700R4 automatic
Recently found a second Camaro now that the '84 is almost finished: 1988 sport coupe that was a Z28 body clone (this car still has the V6). $75. Unfortunately the transmission isn't working at all, the fuel pump died, the body is in ugly shape, and it has mismatched wheels (2 off '79 Z28, 2 off '86 Z28). Runs great on starter fluid though, haha....

Who know's- who's counting. I will never sell it so it doesn't matter. Anyone looking to dump money into there car performance wise should never intend on selling the car afterwards- you will never regain the cost on anything you build.

performance cars are merely a hobby and a money pit- and are never an investment.

Car: 1991 Camaro RS
Engine: 3.1 MPFI V6
Transmission: 700r4
$500 for 91

jvc basic head unit
4 new winston winner gt tires
still factory spare never used, even jack instructions
sub/amp wiring, with out sub and amp
crappy tune up speakers in front
unkown but somewhat good speakers in back
ugly APC steering wheel with horn not hooked up(fixed)
only 1/4th of the front grill remaining
huge crack at bottom of bumper
made in van nuys(sp) so paint is almost all gone
only clearcoat left in back, must of resprayed it or something
Z28 rear badge(rear end damnaged, back bumper replaced?)

As crappy as it is, with 168k miles on it, it still does a one wheel burnout, while my brothers 91 RSconvertable 305 can barley even chirp em off of a powerbraked launch.(both 700r4)

Besides needing a new motor (damn thing still ran a 14.5 with a bent rod though)......not too much went wrong! I can't complain with a car that will run a 13.7 at 104 mph with a stock, slipping automatic trans. No power adders, no nitrous...no bore or stroke.....just basic bolt ons, heads, and a mild cam.

Car: Chevy Cobalt & Camaro
Engine: 2.2 DOHC/3.1
Transmission: Not so slushy slush box/Slush Box
Axle/Gears: Stock 3.23
Paid $600 for it. It ran great. But I got it when I was 18 and drove it like an 18 yr old. So far I put 2 trannys in it did a 2.8 - 3.4 swap when I blew the 2.8 up. (spun a bearing, Bent the push rods, and threw a rod) just rebuilt the suspension and redid most of the brake system. And now the thing is sitting in storage at U-hual (cause I don't have a garage anymore) with most of the engine parts sitting in the backseat and needs a ton of sensors and a possible new ECM. And I just moved 3 and half hrs away from where the Camaro is and can't get it towed out here. I am thinking of going back striping all of the new parts an my fiberglass hood and starting over with a Z-28 or an IROC. And I also started to prep it for paint and the city I was living in made me put it into storage cause I didn't have a garage anymore. So Its probably rusted pretty good by now.. Oh and did I mention it has no windshield. So now I am stuck driving the ugliest car ever to grace the road with it presence. A 1981 Murcury Zypher. Just got a great job so Soon I will hopfully have a running Camaro. And not a POS
