MSD install..causing issues, any ideas?

Hey fellas,

I installed MSD coil, wires, and 6A box a while ago and it worked great for about a month or so. Then my car started stalling and died out while driving for no apparent reason.

It turns out that the box kept on burning my ingnition module on the distributor, under the cap. I'd replace it several times and everytime it burned.

I ended up taking it out, but I loved the response and mileage it gave me while it lasted. Also, made the engine feel healthy.

Any ideas on what the cause might be? Thanks...

Weird... I've had my MSD installed for a while now, and haven't had problems. Did you use the heat-sink grease on the new module? How did you wire the MSD box to the car's harness?

as long as the module you get is a remote mount type coil yes it will work.

Hm; if you used the adapter (like I did), I dont' see anything wrong! Did you call MSD (or email them) about it? They're really helpful over there. I rebuilt my distributor with a "stock" Borg-Warner module (Holley didn't have their module out yet, and I didn't know the Accel was the same price as the Borg-Warner one) and pick-up coil. I'm using the MSD Blaster SS coil, run a GM cap & rotor, have MSD 8.5mm wires, and the timing is set to 10 degrees advance.

Could you have bad wires around the distributor? Give the harness wires (4pin connector to ECM, 2 pin connector to coil) the "wiggle" test- wiggle them with the car running and see if the car stumbles around. I wonder if, when you replaced your modules, you positioned the wires so they worked.

j166a99, which ignition module is that? (Manufacturer & part #) Was this in the catalog? I didn't think Summit had any modules listed in the catalog that were shown as being for a V6. (They exist, but just not in the catalog.)

Hmmmmmm, that's definitely something to think about...hmmmmm

Oh, and about the link for the Holley Perfomance Ignition Module, you can find it here. I think I might just try it out and give it another shot, oh and thanks for the info on MSD support, should've tried that long ago.
