Purge valve on evap canister

Hy,
how is this valve supposed to work on top of evap canister?
Is there a membrane inside and should it hold vacuum just like any other vacuum actuator?
The thing is that it doesn hold it, its freeflowing and I'm not sure if membrane is torn or it should be like that....
I'm coming to the end of full rebuild and I have some backfiring....
Thank you

I cant tell you about the internal function of the valve, but whether it is working correctly or not will not cause your car to backfire.

Re: Purge valve on evap canister

On the late V6 cars the purge solenoid is normally open (NO). So it won't hold vacuum unless activated.

The ECM closes it when purge isn't required. The ECM will then PWM it to purge the canister of fumes, at the right time.

Hy, sorry for late response. I had checked and its closed while engine running. Backfire was due to distributor being advanced.
