got my exhaust figured out just one question on tail pipes
i finally got my exhaust figured out. it consists of a 2 1/2" intermediet pipe going to a hooker aerochamber muffler. my ques is where can i get a set of 3" tail pipes. not tips the whole tail pipe from exhaust to end.
Just make sure you will like the sound after 3 inch pipes . I know they are just tailpipes , but they do change the sound .I know a couple cars that have had it done to them , bigger pipes and it made them deeper sounding .one was a 350 and the other a 4.3 .
Want to truly spend your exhaust dollars WISELY?
From exhaust manifolds-
From ends of exhaust manifolds.
THERE YA GO
Have a HI-FLOW "Y" Pipe created. Should go for about $50+. to confirm why, open hood and look at the flow connection, passenger side. It stinks, now.
Retain the CC or replace with a better/newer model.
Have installed or find real good stock V-8 F-Body intermediate pipes (they are slightly larger (1/4-1/2"), will fit perfect and may cost FREE-throw aways!), top off with a muffler of choice.
You could end up spending about $150 or so for a complete better performing system.
I have my eye on a 1990 Z-28 and I want to do this theory.
I say 3" is just to large.
Others once shot me down...
Until you start pushing serious HP, try scoring the above plan.
Remember, I am pushing more HP than you. Please NOT BRAGGING!
I have a 1995 model year 3.4 engine with about 48K miles on a "stock" 85 exhaust system. I'm aching to upgrade, soon. I have a high flow muffler, looks like a "Z-28" style, NO BRAND NAME & I heard a new CC. I got car used.
Stock GM exhaust piping is superb quality stuff. I'm not saying you cannot improve it, just try to replace with better choice (larger engine sized piping) of factory GM stuff in yards. Pipes will last forever. Most of their stuff is double walled piping
