20 inch rims

I was wondering i have a 1990 iroc 5.7 ported stock heads custom grind cam
gears headers and i am runing it with 20 inch irocs and wanted to know how much of a difference 16 inch irocs would make since i have never driven it with the stock rims.

i call bs i wanna see pics. If you actually did put 16's or 17's not only would you see an improvement in ride quality and appearance, your car would be a hell of a lot faster because 20" rims weigh a ton. Regardless i still call on 20's unless i see pics.

nice guys....

yes the smaller wheels will make a dramatic reduction in rotational weight freeing up major power. 20's are the worst thing you can do to a heavy car like our own when you want to go fast.

remove a rim/wheel and weigh it before you consider changing sizes. my stock 16's with 245/50/16 pilots weighed roughly 50lbs just to give you a reference. my new 18's are about 40 with tires but they are billet and not cast.

a cast wheel is exceptionally heavy, especially a 20. post some pictures i want to see...

obviously not a stock 5.7 motor then or the ls1 was junked. your taking a 220 rwhp car maybe with 20's and racing a 300 rwhp with smaller wheels assumingly. there would be no contest.

anyhow looks good......way to show everyone who thought it was b.s. don't know why anyone wouldn't believe you though as there are quite a few members with them on here. looks good kep it up.

Then you got the sweet deal.....again car looks great. I've debated on getting Iroc 17's or 18's for my Z ,although I did just pick up a set of 91-92z rims that were bead blasted/powder coated/painted black with the center nut left chrome. They look mean and stealthy, cant wait to get'em on..

20' wheels are overkill, I think the chuckwagon wheels would look just as good.

only one thing...20's w/o a brake upgrade? are you nucking futs? I know Kandied is sporten' the Baers, but stock these cars don't stop for crap, and you want those dinky 10.5 brakes to stop 20inches of rotating mass? The car does look sharp(suprise to me, not usually a fan of the huge wheels) but set some priorities...seriously, you could put new pads on that thing w/o taking the wheels off...

later, justin...

not trying to be a dick, just my opinion
I know, I know...opinions are like a..holes, everyone's got one..

That is a pretty sweet car...minus the rims of course. Seriously man, your car would be so much faster with a smaller rim. Sounds like you have a decent setup, you must absolutely roast those 20's. Switch rims and be amazed.

I don't think 20 inch rims and racing should be used in the same sentence, but that's just me.

They do look good on the iroc though.

There's a guy in my country with a GTA with 20'ties on it. He says he has them on BECAUSE he's racing it. Well, he puts some 15 inch slicks on when at the strip though, but autocrossing and driving on the street, it's the 20's.

Lets see if I can dig up a pic....

This guy is quite serious, sporting a 540 inch twin turbo setup. Guess he knows what he's talking about when going with 20's.

I dont see twin turbos in that pic.

The lower profil tire obviously helps, tho like said, The weight
those mags carry shouldnt be beneficial for racing ..

If you are throwing 20" or even 19" wheels on a car that you still want to be fast, then you either need some high HP numbers, or loose a whole bunch of weight, both rotational and sitting

I have 19's on my car and i can still run 12's and i haven't even touched the internal components of the engine

So don't be so quick to say large wheels can't go on a race car.....

i'd be quick to say it....it's theoretical. need alot of power to turn those babies...doesn't mean the car cant' be fast, just that it would run faster.

Take it to the track. My guess is a mid 13 or worse.

Maybe if he run's sticky tires out back, which I wouldn't recommend that with a ten bolt anyways. Otherwise you won't hit 12's with a stock LS1. I love how people say they'll run this and that when they've never been to the track in the first place. If he is talking with the nitrous then it is very possible, but I don't see it NA.

oh i absolutely agree.....i don't think a ls1 even with a little nitrous will be bad on the 10 bolt assuming he doesn't run sticky tires. anything above 300 with dr's i'd start to worry, especially if the rear hasn't been maintained.

i wasn't trying to say what you would run, just what i know that combo will run with the similar weight. without nitrous i definately see you at low 13's assuming you can hook. sure we would all love it if they went faster but to get into low 12's and even 11's is cause for some serious power, good traction and good driving.

you'll need to be hitting a very low 60' to pull that off.

RRRIIIIGGHHHHTTTT, mid 13's with nearly 420 HP to the wheels...

Who in their right mind would install nitrous and then go to the track and not use it.............If i was racing, I wouldn't be racing N/A, so it's completely pointless to post what i would run in the 1/4 without the nitrous....

So yes, I can run in the 12's with all 76" of chrome......

I love how people say they'll run this and that when they've never been to the track in the first place.

ive only run my LS1 car a few times... a couple of months back it was running 13.28@105 bone stock with 17" summitomo street tires. with a 2.24 60'.
had it been a 2.0 60' it would have quite possibly been a 12.99. on street tires, stock. '99 camaro ss m6.

-edit- i also went 8.18 @ 90 in the 1/8 3 weeks ago with a 100 shot. still an otherwise bone stock car on street tires. 2.08 60'. pretty hot day.

You have 373.5 hp to the wheels WITH NITROUS, which you won't be able to use until well into second gear. You dreaming again Or are you guessing like your flywheel numbers indicate? I suggest you take a trip to the track and get real numbers before you get your hopes up. Before you say anything, I do have actual numbers and hard data with my LS1. I don't bench race. :lala:

You have 373.5 hp to the wheels WITH NITROUS, which you won't be able to use until well into second gear. You dreaming again Or are you guessing like your flywheel numbers indicate? I suggest you take a trip to the track and get real numbers before you get your hopes up. Before you say anything, I do have actual numbers and hard data with my LS1. I don't bench race. :lala:
im not sure i understand. i can run 11's all day long on street tires with a 150 shot on a otherwise stock ls1.... screw 12's. just have to know how to drive halfway decent.

That's nice, but he has a 75 shot and just started driving stick with 19 inch rims. Like I said, before you go saying I run this and that, take a trip to the track and get REAL times. Again, where did you come up with "420 hp to the wheels?"
