16" Formula rims on '84 TA?

I picked up a set of 16" Formula rims from a neighbor. 2 fronts and 2 rears -I think that the clearance looks a little tight at the lower front fender when turning the wheels. I have also read that the later years had steering/suspension changed in bump stops due to clearance issues.

Will these work or do I need to be looking at a different setup? I havent put tires on yet and would rather not spend that money before I understand whether these will work.

They should fit fine, I had 16x8 formula wheels on my 83 for a little while. I don't know of any differences in the bump stops.

yEs, they were indeed a little different. The stops in the steering box were a little different on the cars that had the 16" rims to prevent the wheels from rubbing (when the 3rd gen was originally designed, 215 or 235/65/15 was a big wide performance tire!

I am actually going through this upgrade right now too. This is what A LOT of research has shown. Basically though, it comes down to trial and error and whether or not you can live with them rubbing if you don't change the steering box. The reason i say trial and error is that every tire is different.....even if you take 5 brands of 245/50/16 they may all be a little different in width....i have yet to understand why they can't standardize measurements but this seems to be the case.

hope this helps.
