Has anybody used these at the track? How do they hook?
How are they driving on the street > Finally how do they wear if driven alot on the street?

The reason for all the questions is I see M&H has a 275/55R16 Drag which the same exact size/dimensions as the 275/60R15. I was looking for a 28" tire to put on my with 16" tires but only found the M/T drag radial but that's way too big @ 295/50R16. My car is lowered 2" and I've had a 275/60R15 on the back before w/o any rubbing. I already rolled the wheel well lip so I have enough clearance.

My car is only a weekend driver and only is driven about 1000 miles a year and will probably on be at the track about 3-4 times this year.

Any comments from those who have used them will be a great help.

 

You need to be very careful with these tires on the street. The M/T tires, which the M&H Racemasters are an answer to, are Race tires, and are not intended to be street driven. I'm sure if you put plenty of air in them and drive like and old lady, you will be OK, but they do not have street tire carcasses and will go around corners like a fishing trawler. They are Radials, but they are not STREET RADIALS.

Dave Hance has run a high 6-second pass on "Drag Radials" ( I wasn't there, but I suspect M/T's). BFG's and Nittos wear better and are safe on the street as they have a street radial carcass. I've even known of Road Racers to use Nitto Drag radials all the way around with excellent results, and they're 7 second capable on a drag racer, but not 6 second capable.

I agree with the TA. I am not trying to be condescending but have you had racing tires before? I have not had the MH 's but they( racing tires) are a whole different animal than a street tire. They may have a DOT stamp on them but are usually for a race class that requires a DOT tire. I guess what I am trying to say is they are soft and get a good bite but that comes with a trade off , like rolling over on the side wall in a turn and picking up EVERYTHING on the road that is not stuck down. They work good for what they are for .(sometimes to good and then you want more power!) Sorry if you are a racer and already knew this. I have heard some good things about them from people running them but not in third gens.

 

If you truly only go a 1000 miles a year, they should be fine. I had both BFG and M/T 275/40/17's on my Firehawk and they worked pretty well, partially because of the short sidewall. The M/T tire was more agressive and hooked well at the track. I also had M/T 275/50/15's on my third gen and didn't have any problems, but they were a good bit looser than the 17's on the Firehawk. At a 1000 miles a year, they should last you 3 to 5 years, just be careful as they are not your normal radial. This is my real world experience.
