89 tires on a 78
Hey guys looing for a bit of help. I had a blow out on my 78 camaro and since the tires where already old and worn and my 89 is getting overhauled I decided to just put my 89 (215/65/15)tires on my 78. they look great and they really fill out the car.
here's the issue, the tires rub really bad when i'm turning but on tirerack.com that's the size they recommend, though on another website discountire.com it recommends 215/60/15...i'm looking for the best tire that won't rub or mess with my speed.
does anyone know the actual and best size for this, any help would be great thanks.

You mean you used the wheels and tires, right?
I don't think the 3rd gen wheels fit exactly because of the Front/Rear differing offset of the 3rd gen wheels.

i think that only the 16's have a front rear difference. my stock 15's dont have a front and back set - they are all the same, at least for rim size, the tires are different sizes though.
bolt them on and see if they fit - they either do are they dont.
take a look at my site - i have 255/60 15 on the front and they just barely fit. pushing the edge on the 15/7 rims.
on the back i am running 275/60 15 and they just barely clear the stop on the inside. and they are 1/2 inch too wide for the rims, but what the heck.
215/60 15 will not come even close to fitting a stock 15X7 rim. not for anything but slow and show.

Re: 89 tires on a 78
hmm...all i know is that my 78 had 235/60/14 and i switched them to my 89s 215/65/15...the tires rub when i turn and on dips...the thing is one website says that 215/60/15 & 235/60/15 will fit...another website says that 215/65/15 & 235/60/15 will fit...i'm not really wanting to go with the 235/60/15 cuz i'm expecting that they will for sure fit...
i've been looking around online, and now i'm wondering about putting a 225/60/15 size on the rims...i'm mainly concerned about it rubbing when i turn...everything on the car is stock and the car has no mods...
any help would be great...thanks

Probably has more to do with differences in offset than the tire size if you're rubbing. But, I don't know anything about second gens lol
