Re: Cragars?

I'm curious, whats the biggest size tire I could get for the rear, well widest i mean, tire not wheel. I want to have a stagger look and grab a bit more traction.. But i kind of want the tires both to look the same size from the side, but from front and back you can tell a big difference

Re: Cragars?

I checked those wheels out on summit and they come in something like a 4" backspascing in a 15x10. The min. you need with a 15x10 is 5.5 backspacing or they will stick out past the fenders. Whats your rim specs Tony ?

5.5 backspaing is flush with the fender lip. 6.5 backspacing is inside the wheel well and you have to modify the wheel well depending on how big of a tire you run.

Re: Cragars?

Yeah I don't mind my tire sticking out of the lip of the car.. I want a tire that will fill up the whole width of the well, i mean from the side to side without sticking out or rubbing. Just the width, i'm wanting to keep the tires look the same size from the side of the vehicle

haha i was thinking one thing and typed another. I mean't to say I don't want the tire sticking out of the lip. I just want the tire to fill up the width from the inner wall to maybe about the inner lip, just don't want any rubbing.

Re: Cragars?

Depends on who you ask. Can you fit a 295 on a 15x8 rim yes. Do they bulge something terrible yes. Do you only wear out the middle of the tire cause they bulge so much yes. This can also be said with a 275 tire but it dosent look as bad on the rim.

To be honest im not sure I bought the rims with bf good rich radial tires all around for $50 some guy had them on craig's list and he had them bolted up to a S10 but they dont stick out or there to in the fender there just perfect like a stock rim would fit in a camaro.

It sucks that they only come on a 4 backspace for the 15x10 I wonder how much it would stick out?

Tony.

Try here http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

in the left window input the stock wheel+tire combo and in the right the one you want to fit and it will tell you below how much it will stick out etc.

Re: Cragars?

So the 15x10 would be to much... If i stick with the stock size whats the most I could do? But still not getting the hump in the middle so it doesn't over wear and ruin the tread.

Re: Cragars?

A 15x10 with 6.5 backspacing is perfect but you need some fab skills or BFH to make it fit.

15x8 with the right backspacing and a 265/255 tire will work. You can use a 275 but would probably have to take some air out of the tire and round around 20psi .

15x7 will work with the max of a 255 tire and you will have to also lower the psi to about 20 psi.

Re: Cragars?

If you run a tire thats "too big" for the rim its on its going to bulge. If you run that tire at the recomended tire pressure, usally around 32 psi the tire contact patch will only be in the middle of the tire because its bulgeing so much. If you lower the psi you deflate the tire and "flattening out" the bulge which equals more contact patch.

Re: Cragars?

ok, im confused. im set on this wheel 15x8 x4.75 with 4 inch backspace. 50 bucks a piece. i was going to order them from summit tonight but i looked at there shipping info. and it said that for a 200 range purchase it would cost 12 bucks. every where else it seems like shipping is just as much as the wheels themselfs. but i looked more and it said that items that were to heavy had to be hauled by truck and it didnt define "to heavy/to big. has anyone ever bought from here and how did u determine. maybe tomorrow ill call summit.

Re: Cragars?

I bought 15x8's and put 275's on them and they kept rubbing the outer fender over bumps. The backspacing on them was 3.75. I went down to 255's and it still rubbed a little. I'm getting the same wheels again this summer with a bigger backspacing.

Re: Cragars?

im so confused with what backspacing is. i know the 15x8 will fit on the front as stated but for the 15x10 do i need a spacer or something to make it work, if so what size spacer and what size tire would you reccomend, i do not plan on ever lowering my car either, thanks.

You dont need spacer at all front or rear. if you end up using spacer's for the rear with a 15x10 the tire is gonna stick way out out of the fender lip. Even with a 15x10 in the rear without spacer is still going to stick out a little bit. I have 15x8's all around with 235/60/15 tires and it works well eventually i was gonna go with a 255/60/15 in the back or all around.

Re: Cragars?

My rear wheels and tire stick out some because I have A 295/50r15 on a 3.75 backspaced wheel. If you want to run a fat tire on a 10in. or even a 8in. wheel your going to need allot more backspacing. 5.0 at least in IMO. Maybe some here can help explain better how backspacing works or at least punch in " what is wheel backspacing" on Google and try to figure it out. Hope that helps some.By the way I had to run special shocks to keep my fender flairs from bottoming out.If you get the right backspacing you will not have that problem. Here's a photo of what I mean.

Re: Cragars?

I'm set on these wheels now, but I'm goin to use my black painted
stocks till this summer. But one thing I noticed is that they make a 15, 16, 17. Stock I have 16's and I know I can put 295/50s on 16x8 and it's fine in the rear. The only thing is idk what rim size to go with. I love the look of 15s on the Camaros with th bigger tires in back. But I also like 17s because I like the amount of rim. But Im also concerns about rubbing up front which makes me want to stick with 16s but that also makes me want to save my money and keep my black stocks and put 295/50 on those. Any input?

Re: Cragars?

Its up too you really on what type of look you want for your ride. The black ones gives more of a NASCAR look especially if you have tires with the white bold letters looks real dope. I thought about the 17's as well but not sure that would be one heavy rim.

Re: Cragars?

Yah, I was looking at these a last year and then got away from them and started looking for more of a 5 spoke look. But after seeing how thy look on your car i fell in love with them. Lol your car looks so sick with those on there. That's a great point on the 17s I was lookin on summit last night bu couldn't fins how much these weigh. What I'm goin to do for now is weight till after I get it painted to see how the black on my stocks even looks with the two tone colors I'm doin, black on top and atomic orange on the bottom, then go from there. I'll prbly just keep my stocks until after I get the rest of the car finished, interior/rearend. But ik I'm def gunna put some 295s on it while I'm waiting to pick out the rims I really want. I love the price of these, quality made with the cragar name too. But I love how your car looks Tony, it made me want to just paint my car complelty black like what I was gunna do before. Lol
