Tire Questions

Alright so I am looking at getting new rims and moving up a size to 17. I found new ZR1 rims I liked but once I saw them on a third gen they didnt look right. Anyway I want to start running my Camaro at auto-x, road race events. I was wondering is it better to have more tire than rim(in other words 16inch better than 17in?) or is better to have more rim than tire.

Best Regards

Wheel Of Fortune

None is better per se.

More tire than wheel is what you want if you have to deal with potholes and other ruff road problems.

More wheel than tire is what you want if the majority of roads in your area are basically problem free.

Happy Racing!

How bout those too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime and the ones that need headlights for a little rain

Re: Tire Questions

Since you asked about aut0-x & road racing, I'd say 17s will suit your needs better.

For street use, 17" will also be fine most of the time, just slow down for potholes & bad road seams.

Re: Tire Questions

Are there any light weight 17" wheels that fit 3rd gens without adapters?

sure, companies like bbs, hre and ccw, ect all make lightweight racing wheel to any spec you want, but at a price, usually 7-800 EACH minimum, these are usually 3pc wheels

there are many other companies that make lighter 2 pc wheels at a lesser cost, but still a few hunderd per wheel

Re: Tire Questions

When doing searches at places like Tirerack, look up wheels by an older BMW 3-series (3-series has the same lug pattern, IIRC). Same lug pattern, fit right on, if you get the backspacing right.

Other than that, there are still some that will come up as fitting 3rd gens.
