Rear backspacing question!

Hi everybody,

I just bought these 17" rims, (front 8.5J offset 13mm), rear (10J offset 20mm) and want to put 285/40 tires on rear.

Rear backspace will be 6,3" (stock is 5,1") and question is will I have to put some spacers or not? Difference in BS is 1,2" so if I have to put some spacers, which dimension to buy?

Thank You all in advance,

best regards!

Re: Rear backspacing question!

The stock 16" fronts had 0 offset, 16" rears had 16mm offset. The fronts would fit the rears without spacers, but that wouldn't do you much good.

The fronts will have 5.26" backspacing so you MIGHT need 1/4" slip-on spacers to fit on the front of your car. Probably will. My 17"/5" backspacing Snypers are VERY close to the tie rod ends. 1/4" of room at the very most, but I doubt even that might, and they never rub the tie rods.

And the rears will have 6.28" backspacing, so the rears would fit good with 1.5" or 2" bolt-on spacers. Too far in & they'll rub the inner panel. Too far out & they'll hit the fender lip.

Re: Rear backspacing question!

I just put wheels on car and everything is ok. I have front 20mm spacers because of earlier rear GTA wheels on front, and with them, new wheels fit without rubbing (8,5J ET13 with 245/45/17 tires and 5.3" backspacing)
Big suprise for me is that there is no need for spacers on rear With 10J ET20 wheels and 285/40/17 tires there is no rubbing at all. I just had to move parking brake cable on left rear wheel for a few mm and that is all. For your information, 6.3" backspacing will fit on rear without any modifications. Here are pictures:
