Re: 88 Camaro center caps.

Don't know about 89, but in 88 I'm pretty sure they should be grey/silver. Off the showroom floor my car was silver w/dark grey ground effects seperated by a red/black pinstripe. Had silver rims with silver center caps and black lug nut covers. Its that way in the 88 camaro sales brochure as well.

Re: 88 Camaro center caps.

Here is a minty set from my '87 that I took off 20 years ago. The lettering is (strangely) gold. I'm pretty sure they are originals. Plastic with an aluminum ring around where the lugs would go. I realize the 88 rims were different than 87 rims, were the caps different as well?

Re: 88 Camaro center caps.

Yes they are very different, the one's in the picture are held on by lug nuts.
The other center caps have clips on that fits in center. I will see if I can get pics of mine. I have the one's that clip in.

Re: 88 Camaro center caps.

Those caps go to a different wheel. I do believe those go with these wheels if I'm not mistaken.

Re: 88 Camaro center caps.

here is a pic of an 88 sports coupe from that years sales brochure. It shows the wheels with silver center caps. My 88 had the same wheels stock.

Re: 88 Camaro center caps.

Do you know if those caps are chrome or just metal? I'm trying to replace mine but I don't know what the orginal caps looked like, all I know is that they're yellow now..lol

If you are referring to the pictures I posted, they are grey plastic with a metal circle around the base. They were stock for my '87 Sport Coupe, before I yanked them off and threw them in the attic 20 years ago when I swapped rims. You would be better off to just scrap the rims and grab a set of IROC or GTA rims. As much as I like originality in these cars, those rims have gotta go!

Re: 88 Camaro center caps.

Thanks, but I disagree. They have an old school look to them. I definitly need bigger tires. How big can you go on these? 245 for the back?

I had P245 60R15 on the fronts and they rubbed. P235 was fine on the front. P245 were fine on the back. As far as old school, when I see these particular factory rims, I don't think old school, I think base-model-with-no-options. I've got the factory rims that go with the centercaps I posted above, in my garage. 40,000 miles when I yanked 'em off back in '92. I wouldn't dream of using them, just too plain, but to each their own. I'll agree that you don't see them very often.

Re: 88 Camaro center caps.

Yea I guess. The rims are definitly nothing nice to look at. I'd loove to have bigger rims, but I just don't know how they would look without the ground effects..??
