GTA Wheels on Camaro?

Hey guys, just wanting to double check what a fella at a tire store told me. I'm looking into getting some GTA wheels 87-92 for my 1990 Camaro RS. He told me that the rims would fit, but we would have to get a smaller tire to compensate for the extra inch because the GTA wheels are 16's while my stock rims are 15's. He told me that he would recommend getting 4 front wheels because of the 0 offset.

Does this match up? I think yes, but I don't want to buy the wheels until I'm sure that they will be able to fit.

Yup. Thats what you want to do. 4 fronts. makes it easy to swap tires front to rear (so you don't have to break them down and swap tires off of the rims). Its also what the race cars did because its the lightest 16 factory GM wheel 4 these cars.
Solid advice.

While 4 fronts is one way to go, it is not the only way. You can put all 4 on the way they are designed. Fronts on the front & Rears on the rear.

Or (my preference & what I've done in the past) you can put the fronts on the rear & by using the factory slip-on spacers (or equally thick aftermarket ones) and the Fronts will fit on the front just fine. My daughter is driving that car right now & it has been that way for over 10 years now, just fine.

But using 4 Fronts will allow easier tire rotation, if you ever do that. I never have and certainly can't now with my 275s & 315s on 17s.

Re: GTA Wheels on Camaro?

your not really getting a "smaller" tire, the diameter is still going to be the same, about 25.7", but since the wheel is larger, the hole in the center of the tire will be larger.

Re: GTA Wheels on Camaro?

Classic Industries sells new reproductions. I've seen good and not-so-good reviews on them.

Hawk's sells used ones when they have some onhand.

Thirdgenranch sells used ones refinished to order.

And you might find used ones for sale from private sellers in the classifieds forum here on TGO, or on ebay and craigslist.

I don't know if used wheel dealers would break-up sets to sell you 4 front wheels, and most likely all private sellers would only have proper sets of 2 each, but if you're ordering new ones from, say, Classic, or some other source for repros, I'd think it would be no problem to order 4 fronts.

Stock tire size for 16" wheels is 245/50-16.

Edit: If you're looking for pics of Camaros with GTA wheels, I've seen a few on this site, but the only one that comes to mind is the RS convertible owned by member/moderator lonsal; he's the owner of site sponsor TDS (Top Down Solutions).
