GTA wheels
GTA wheels
Hello all,
Pretty new here, me and my father picked up an 83 Trans am almost a year ago and we're slowly going through the whole car. We recently picked up a set of mint gta wheels, no tires and are looking to mount them up. The previous owner of the car, a friend of my fathers, said that he had bought a set to put on his car but he said the early model third gens had a different style suspension and the wheels rubbed on the inside of the wheel well.
I've searched all other this section of the forum and i haven't been able to find any concrete info on this, will they fit? or did he just have the fronts and rear mixed up? If not hat size spacers should be run in order to get the correct fitment?
Was planing on running a 245/50 up front and 255/50 in the rear.
Thanks for any help!

Re: GTA wheels
The only meaningful.difference is the length of the steering stop on the conrol arm between cars that came with 15 or 16" wheels. They may rub a little at full lock, but its not a big deal.

As far as I know, the ones with the bigger "lip" are actually meant to go on the front. Well, I think they look dumb on the front. I just ended up getting a small spacer so that I could put the rims with the small lip on the front so it looked right.
And yes, I have GTA rims on my camaro. I frickin love the rims.

Ugh, I think it's like a 5/16" spacer, just grabbed some universal ones from O'reilly's and threw them on, made sure I had plenty of thread still for the lug nuts, I have re-torqued them 3 times, and on the 2nd and 3rd re-torque they hadn't come loose at all. They fit great. I still have the little spacers that came on the rear axle from the factory, and I heard those work also.

Re: GTA wheels
When I was reading about running the big lip GTA rims on the front, I cam across a thread mentioning that I think just the drum brake cars came with a small spacer on the rear axle and that you can put that on the front and they will clear. I didn't think mine still had them until I already bought the new spacers. So I left mine on the rear and put the new set up front.
These cars are old and I bet half of the spacers that came with these cars are long gone.

I have the fronts on the rear and vise versa, but I had to run a 1/4" spacer in the front-no big deal. Yeah the deeper lip just looks dumb on the front. My car has drums and there was no spacer on them.
