i have a 1988 iroc im plan to get 17" rims im looking for the widest tire i can fit on the back how big can i go? and what offset? if there is any way to lower it that would be good but would be willing to jack it up a inch or so and do small mods but dont wanna go threw tubbing it

 

CTW Motorsports sells a direct fit 17" x 9.5" wheel that fits all 4 corners. While you can fit a 11" wheel in the rear with some massaging, the choices are somewhat limited.

 

yeah i was thinking 17x9 up front but im putting a twin turbo ls motor in so im looking for all the rubber i can get in the back if i go with the 17x11 how big of a tire can go on it? and what off set would i need?

 

You can run a 17x11 with a 315/35-17 tire if you roll the rear fender. If I remember correctly my rear 17x11 have a 6" backspace.

 

i had 4th gen rear and SS rims and ran 315 35 17 without touching a thing and ive had 325 15s with the help of a baseball bat ghetto fender roll and a BFH mini tub

 

 

what exactly is rolling the fender?

 

If you check the inner edge of the fender well you will see that there is a lip that needs to be bent upward to keep from rubbing and cutting into the tire that is as wide as a 315. There are special tools that help with this, but some people have done it with just a baseball bat the is levered against the tire.

The trick is keeping the paint from splitting or controlling it so that it doesn't cause it from flaking off on the outside.

look at your local craigslist and type in fender rolling service. some people do it for 60 bucks all around or like 20 a fender. thats down here in so cal tho.
