9.5 wides with big brakes

Ive got a set of 17x9.5 wheels ive had forever. Fit looks spot on with the factory hubs. I was gonna swap to LS1 brakes but I believe that will push the wheels out about 1/2 inch further. I think thats gonna put me right on the limit with fender clearance. If not outside the fender with 275s on. Just lookin for opinion and input. Thanks

Re: 9.5 wides with big brakes

Modern brake retrofit will push the wheel out by whatever thickness the new rotors are at the hub where the wheel meets up. It can vary a bit depending what brakes you use.

Once you get real close to the fender little bitty changes become pretty obvious to the eye. My rear wheels are out flush with the fender and it looks just a little goofy. It's always bugged me but it's not a $5,000 problem.

You can get away with it a little easier if you have ground effects. Smooth body cars like mine look better with the wheels tucked a bit. And the tires will visually look wider when tucked. That's my opinion anyway.

What offset are those? 0 offset shouldn't push 'em out nearly that far!!!! Mine were 0 offset 9.5" wide and with LS brakes and they weren't nearly that far out. ...you didn't specify so I assume they're not 0. I would agree that they're out too far in that picture.

Its a1.6 offset. Not much, just enough apparently. But must be enough. I got wilwoods for it. Wheels sit where they should now.

I saw in another thread that you had a bump steer kit on, where you able to use the bump steer kit with the 9.5 wide wheels?

Wow. Been a while. But i finally got it back on the ground. Yes. Bump steer kit fit with the 9.5 wide 17s. 5.25 bs with a 1.6mm offset. Sits inside wheel well and clears everything. I need a longer bump steer stud. But work in progress.
