87 Frankenbird Formula Project

Description:
The car is an 87 Pontiac Formula. It had the original carb 305 but I had it pulled and put in the engine from my 90 Formula, it was super clean and about 60k less miles on it. I added the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Edelbrock Performer 600 cfm carb and removed all smog equipment. I replaced the stock exhaust with Flowtech shorty headers and Y-Pipe, removed the cat and threw in a Flowmaster 80 series crossflow muffler. The torque converter has been replaced with a stock replacement for a corvette (2600 RPM). The transmission was rebuilt and a shift kit included just before I bought it. All the interior is from the 90 and I put in a new carpet kit from ACC. The previous owner of the 87 put the ground effects, fenders and bumpers on it from a GTA. I removed all that crap and restored the car to its original Formula body. All of the cooling also came from the 90 which I hand picked and installed in the 90 originally before the swap. I have finally decided to remove the 90 305 (L03) all together and put in a Blueprint 355.

2-15-1- / I just got New Axles, Eaton Posi & Yukon 3.73 Gears

The album here is pretty much out of order and I update my Picasa album more often so you can see better progress there...

Both the cars at the shop down the road, ready to be swapped. A friend has a shop right down the road from our house and I had him do it.

I sold the hood because it had a big dent in it so I reused the 90 hood. Ugly huh? Like one fat racing stripe.

I put the doors and the fenders from the 90 onto the 87. I am also using the 90 headlights, bumper covers and anything else that goes along with it like the air dam and all that crap underneath.

The 87 bumper was missing a section of the absorber and it had a nice big dent in it so I used the bumper from the 90, it is in perfect shape.

Got the 90 engine into the 87. The intake from the 87 wouldn't work, it had a broken distributor bolt and it couldn't be removed. I replaced it with an Edelbrock Performer RPM. The carb from the 87 is trash so I'll be replacing it in two days with an Edelbrock Performer 600cfm. The engine runs smooth and very loud.

It's July 6, 2008 and I got the rest of the body on the car today. The air dam doesn't fit right, it's the one from the TA trim, the one from the 90 was broke in two. So since this one doesn't fit right I'll be getting a new one soon.

This is what the engine is like now. I'm going to get a 350 put in it though because the 305 is dying after all
