My car's (1987 Iroc-Z) interior upon my purchase in July of 2008. I didn't like all the aftermarket touches and a lot of pieces were either missing, broken or replaced with incorrect items. Driver's seat was slightly bent, cushioning was weak and overall very uncomfortable. Red carpeting was faded (from T-tops) and had holes. Plastics were quite faded as well.

In July of 2010, after hardly driving the car the two previous years and instead spending free time scouring countless salvage yards, Craigslist ads w/travelling for purchases and of course, Ebay, I decided to begin the job of dismantling the interior.

I hadn't (as most of us know when first starting this) expected surprises when removing items but when I removed the carpet, I saw a lot of minor surface rust, most likely from years of leaking t-tops (that probably explained the missing headliner). I ground down the rust, then used a rust converter/primer. The only spot not touched, was the drivers side passenger floor which had a hole in it which appeared, from underneath, to have been caused by a puncture from running something over and never being repaired.

After the entire metal interior was primed and all old seam sealer was removed and replaced with new 3M seam sealer, two coats of Rustoleum specialty paint for metal (corrosion and moisture resistant) was applied.

A full set of leather seats was pulled from a totalled 97 T.A. Formula w/only 30k miles. Seats were then conditioned with 'Leatherique' products, stripped and a test section was done with 'Zelikovitz' leather dye and leather sheen (top coat) products.

Since the test spot looked great, the whole seat was done and with excellent results!

Gauge cluster was removed and glass was polished. Bezel and all black parts of dash were cleaned and sprayed with two coats of SEM interior plastic paint (photo taken after first coat).

Since I'm replacing the factory red cloth seat with black leather ones, I swapped out the red seat belts for black ones. Twenty plus years has faded the black belts and turned them gray. A coat of the same dye used for the seats brought the seatbelts back to their original color.

Zelikovitz dye; used for all seats and seat belts. There's just a few ounces left but this one bottle certainly went a long way. Highly recommended!

A tag found in my overhead console. I know (based on the VIN) that my car was built in 1987 in the Norwood, Ohio plant, but this tag gives me a clue that it was built after the mid-year; the date is 'August 11, 1987'

This one was difficult due to the black not being scuffs, but rather, the finish wearing off (solid black piece painted red from the factory)

Although not interior related, while I was working on the hatch area, I decided to address the extensive rust and pitting issues on the hatchback glass trim.

Trim was sanded, primed and painted, using Duplicolor's Trim point. This is the final result.

Old vs New Circuit Boards. When some gauges stopped working correctly, I removed the gauge cluster and discovered corrosion at some locations on the old board (top). A replacement was purchased/installed and everything works perfect again.
