Description:
This is how I painted the Headlight Buckets onn my 92 Camaro. The previous owner painted the whole nose section red to match the factory painted grille. I went to AutoZone and they sold me the materials needed and the instructions how to. A can of Black Trim Paint can from duplicolor is perfect for this project. ALso I bought automotive paint tape and two kinds of sandpaper, 800 and 1500 grain. The entire job took no more than 2 hours from sanding to time needed allowed for the paint to dry. Once I finished to paint the headlight buckets and removed the tape and newspaper I could see that dramatic transformation of it's looks. The instructions are simple and you get a factory perfect job if you follow them carefully. Enjoy your job.

As you can see, the surfaced of the red painted buckets were glossy so the first step is to sand it untill you can see a flat surface. First use the 800 grain and then use the 1500 grain to smooth it out. wash the sanded area and dry it between sanding to remove the all the residue from sanding. When the the surface is smooth and no sights of a glossy paint surface, is ready for next step.

First use the paint tape and make the layout of the places needed to be painted. Then use newspapers to shield the areas that are not required to be painted including the headlights. Once you got it ready you can start to paint the areas.

Following the instructions from the spray paint can, I applied three coats, 10 minutes in between, to make it thick enought to cover the area througly. After 30 Minutes, the paint would be dry enought to touch and a full hour so it can be handled. After 10 minutes of the last coat, you can carefully remove the taping.

After removing the tape and newspaper, you can clearly see the outline and you have to allow 1 full hour so the paint is completely dry.

You can clearly see the difference of the car after applying paint on the Headlight Bucket areas. It looks more bolder and more factory look. Enjoy your car.
