"SLP" install kit for @ $63.00, everyday. Recipe inside...
I thought I’d share this little piece of info with everyone…
I just got a set of SLP 1 3/4" headers and like a LOT of other guys, opted not to buy the install kit (#30022) SLP sells for $79.95…I thought that was ridiculous. So I took a little time to put one together for myself and tailor it to my needs. I got pretty much everything that comes in the SLP kit except the tubing for the AIR system (I’ll modify my own) and the heat sleeving, if you run the wires right you won't need them.
Here's what I based my thoughts on:
SLP only gives you 8 header bolts, so you’ll have to reuse your rusty old ones or use studs in the places where you’ll need the longer bolts. SLP headers DO NOT have the standard length flanges which would allow you to use bolts that are one length. I went with SS band clamps instead of regular muffler clamps since they give a cleaner look and won’t dent your pipes. However, these parts are NOT listed in the Summit catalog or online, so I had to return the ones I initially bought and reorder the right ones. The correct part numbers are listed below. I bought 2 sets of gaskets since I don’t know which I’ll use yet and to also have a spare set, so for actual cost, knock off $15.95 for the 1406 gaskets since SLP does not give you these. Also I purchased a cat adapter ($11) instead of the SS one from SLP ($34.95) and had it coated along with my headers and Y-pipe.
Here’s what I came up with for a grand total of $89.53 ($73.58 minus the 1406s and $62.58 minus the cat adapter & 1406s)
Summit Racing:
(1) 2 1/4" Walker/ Dynomax exhaust band clamps for a LAP joint, P/N 33231…$8.50/ea
(2) 3" Walker/ Dynomax exhaust band clamps for a LAP joint, P/N 33272…$8.50/ea
(1) Fel-Pro 1406 header gaskets: $15.95
(1) Handling fee:$8.00
Local parts store (Advance Auto):
Fel-Pro Exhaust gaskets, Chevy S/B STOCK exhaust gaskets, P/N 9275B…$6.00
Package of assorted hose clamps, for AIR tube mods, No P/N…$5.00
Exhaust donut gaskets, Advance item #5185157…$1.04 EACH!!!
Local muffler shop:
(1) 3" 45* pipe adapter, NOT stainless, No P/N…$11.00
Bolts--Stainless Steel, $16:
Florida Auto Fastener
24968 NW Ruscito Ln
Altha, FL 32421
850-762-3611
(4) 3/8"-16 x 2 inch HEX head for the header to Y-pipe connection, 2 per side,
Headers: (All bolts are SS socket head 3/8" Allen bolts, 3/8"-16 thread)
(8) 1 inch bolts
(3) 2 inch bolts
(1) 3 inch bolt
(16) 3/8" stainless lock washers…ALL for $16, they were at the Charlotte Auto Fair but will ship cheap!!!
Here’s some pics of it all in various forms.
Enjoy!!!

Joint with a band clamp. Beats the hell out of a muffler clamp, stainless or not:

ebmiller88,
I've got the 1 3/4" SLP headers also and I picked up a set of the doughnut gaskets from Advance Auto
as you suggested, only problem is, they have an inner diameter of 2 1/4" and we need 2 1/2" for the SLPs. Did you find this to be true? I asked the guy at the counter to check and that was the largest size they carried. So I ordered the gaskets from SLP. With shipping, $18.75! What a rip off! $7.95 to ship something that weigh mere ounces!

I found the right sized ones at Advance, they were the last ones the guy checked. You may have to check other stores for them, they must have been out at the time. Sorry, I can't recall the part number.

I dug thru the Walker exhaust donuts we carry at work for about 10 minutes before I found a part number that will work with my 1 5/8" SLP headers... 31500 is what I came up with, I'm not sure if the 1 3/4 use the same donuts, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the info Drew. Who carries 'Walker' exhaust products? If the ones you found have an inner diameter of 2 1/2" then they will work for the 1 3/4" SLPs.
Ed, you have been one very active man recently.... very nice set up here!!! I probably never the the SLP headers, but this is still good cause im sure anyone with headers will probably use some of this for there set... but i would of went with dead soft alum or copper gaskets and some type of locking header bolts.
