How important is the vehicle speed sensor (VSS)????

Well, after I did my TPI swap, I forgot about the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), and I haven't done anything about it until today. I finally ordered one. I was just wondering if not having it hurt my performance. Will I notice any changes in performance, gas mileage, and/or driveability when I install it? Why exactly is it important? Will something like this put me into the 13s? I ran a 14.1 best. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the VSS controls a few things...your torque converter lock-up (this is a good thing for any driving u do over 42 mph, slightly better fuel mileage)...it also controls the EGR fuctions (this is a part throttle setting)...i actually ran better ET's and MPH w/the VSS harness unhooked...hope this helps...theres probably a more "technical" answer that one of the 3rd gen veterans could give u

Since you'll lose TCC lockup, you'll lose about 3mpg. It also controls the canister purge, so don't be surprised when you start smelling a strong gas smell after you shut off the car.
