I got this off the www.gtasourcepage.com website. It shows the following option code for 1988 GTA's:


Y11 -- Ring Gear, 10.50 Diameter, Dana Rear Axle -- 3,308

Now, that sounds like a Dana 44 rear end to me. If so, I should start combing junyards now.

Can anyone confirm this?

 

Dana 44 is only 8 1/2".

 

It seems to me that the only vehicles to receive the Dana 8.5 inch rear were the limited production SLP Firehawks. Maybe some of them were used in road racing apps, but I doubt anything went out as production items. Especially 3300 of them. We'd have run across a few on this board by now.

A 10.5" ring gear'd axle would not fit under our cars.
10.5" rears were used on 3500 series trucks and are full floating axles, typically duallies.

 

That clears it up. I was thinking a 10.5" ring gear is pretty massive!!

I figured it was the Borg Warner 9bolt.
