Weird 700R4 probs..only 1 year old!

I had a trans built for me a little over a year ago. Ran good untill yesterday. I was driving the car and when it was time to hit 2nd, it revved up to like 4K and I heard a snap. and let off the gass. I drove the car to a place to pull over (I was in OD, by the way) and it drove fine till I stopped. When I hit the gas in OD the car felt like it was in neutral. In drive the car would go, the 1-2 shift would vibrate the car and sometimes clank and third is a little late but not bad. I am able to shift into OD after I begin moving in drive and fourth works but if I slow down in OD it returns to neutral. Also in drive the downshift seems to clank as well. I was low on fluid and filled it. Fluid was extremely clean and had no bubbles. All the gears work as well. Anything? I appreciate the time!

sounds like it's going but time doesn't determine how long it lasts. either you don't drive very well or the shop didn't do a very good job. that's unfortunate because they aren't cheap to fix.

well if it felt bad since you had it done it sounds like it is your fault. not driving the car doesn't help but a year shouldn't really effect it much. when you do drive it you don't manually shift it or do a rolling shift (when backing up you should wait to stop before putting it into drive and same the other way).

if they didn't use good parts something as simple as above will really destroy the trans. if you checked the fluid and it's good as well as no metal parts in the pan it sounds like the parts are just failing either from misuse or improper build. a big reason why people are afraid to rebuild.

I never manually shift the car and never do rolling shifts. I drive the car at least once every 2 weeks. It's just too damn hard to find a good tranny guy. I guess I gotta take another stab in the dark and try another tranny guy.

Oha, and I never get on the car either, so I guess you are right. Me driving the car like I care and treating it good means I destroyed my tranny. I guess my daily driving doesn't have long either because, boy do I drive that like a regular person!

calm down you missed the point.....

check out the people who do your work better and you won't have to worry. 1 year doesn't seem very long that's for sure.

Anyway...Just got the car back from a new tranny guy. It wasn't my fault. The tranny was built bad and WASN'T blown. In fact, NOTHING was replaced. $500 later I had the tranny put together correctly and it works like a dream. So, the only thing that was my fault was going to netgearhead.com for a tranny...

Don't use ammco either. Buddy of mine went there. $1400 later and it lasted 2 months.

Yeah, I heard they're no good. My trans is fine now but I know it's hard to find an honest guy. There's a place in NY called ATLAS that's bad. My freind has his done 3 times there before they just gave him his money back. Then he went to the guy I went to now. He's pretty good. He could've said my tranny was done and bagged a grand but he didn't and had my car 1 night. Not bad I guess...

And if everyone around there talks him up he'll be beating customers away with a stick. A good honest transmission shop/mechanic is hard to come by and when word gets out about them, they get swamped with work.

Oh, everybody out here knows about him already. He gets swamped so I guess he has no time to play around and just fixes your car and sends you on your way instead of giving the old "I'll have to pull your valve body for $200 and we'll see from there if you need a rebuild" song and dance.
