Third Gens were pro-touring cars from the factory! Where do you think all these way back musclecar owners got the idea to set up their cars for not only straight line, but for handling and braking too? Hmmmm? Wide, approx. 50 series, Z/VR rated tires, disc brakes, suspension for turning, and bigger rims. Sounds like an IROC-Z to me! (and in the 80's, this stuff on an IROC or any other top Third was breakthrough)

I'm going that way with my 67, but it's a ways away. Money is a nice thing to have... and I'm fixing up my 88 Camaro (beater car) so it's comfy to drive and nice to cruise in (another paint job, sfc/stb, x4amp, sub, 97+ console, etc). It'll be nice to drive a 1st gen period.. muchless with a 6 speed and stiff suspension

leave well enough alone and add a good suspension. meaning no lower then a pro-kit height and some other good essentials like proper spring/strut combos and these cars are outstanding. loose some of the heavy front end weight and they really move. the v6's sometimes are more fun to drive then the v8's.

i'm lookin to do a 327c.i. sbc with a IRS from a vett (so i think that is one unit, tranny bolted to the rear end????) for weight balance, and fiberglass body parts wouldn't hurt... lol

These cars all sound like autocross cars to me??? I am running my car in SCCA Solo 2 ESP class. 11" tires all around for next year. Koni Sport shocks, WS6 package, Torsen T2R differential, 1LE brakes, 2055 headers. More to come. Corner speed is where its at.

I think you could do even better if you used spohn parts they used hotchkis. Hotchkis springs, sfc's,stb, lca's,panhard. I think they added a new steering box too and hopefully a wonderbar.

Has anyone ever used one of the polygraphite front end kits, if so do they work well?

When it comes to pro-touring. I think this car would take the cake.
Twin Turbo big block, the car was built to run at SilverState.

How could you even get into 6th on the highway with the 3.08's- wouldn't the revs be too low?

Here is my brother's car. Pro-Touring or not, it is nasty. Nasty in a good way mind you. C4 IRS + LS1 + T-56 + adjustable coil-over front + 17X9 & 17X11 + STB + SFC's + Roll bar = VIPER KILLER. P.S. the bling wing is gone, and in its place is a 91 Z high rise.

Pro-Touring for us is a bit strange as the whole concept was to take old iron and make it turn and burn.. we are already fairly good in the handling department and not quite old-iron yet..
I think just about any thirdgen that is set up for handling and horsepower would qualify.. and one that is set up simply for straight line performance would not..
as it sits my car has all the chassis and suspension mods, baer brakes, six speed, 275s all around and puts down 373rwhp/360rwtq.. I would classify that pro-touring..
Though the next mods are stroker or blower or both, and looking at getting black z06 wheels to go wider in the rear..
oh and the ram air hood is gone in favor of a cowl induction hood..

This is a 2nd gen Pontiac but it sure is built with the Pro Touring in mind. The guy is really good, he has retrofritted a T56 to a Pontiac engine, rebuilt the suspension, Corvette brakes etc. He makes his own fiber glass and carbon fiber parts...

I actually have both Zig Zag articles on that Z. I rem soon as They both hit the stand I ordered a complete Hotckise setup like that but I did Koni Adj. in all 4 corners.
Hopefully with in the next few weeks I get my tubular K member in, diff shocks, struts , C5 breaks and the ford 9inch in.
Just finished my 8point Roll bar 2weeks ago. Next is paint then to finish off the motor. Single Turbo, Big Cubes...Hopefully It will make for a good PRO TOURNING cruiser.

The whole concept is a pretty awesome idea. Anything that can pull almost a 1G stock is pretty amazing. The ultimate would be 1G on the skid and 11's maybe even 10's in the quarter. It would be a somewhat difficult proposal because of suspension setups, but it would be killer.
"Single Turbo, Big Cubes"
that combination of words should be in a song...

I read in a magizine that there is some kind of challenge of some sort. Pull 1g on the skidpad, 1g accelerating, and 1g stopping. Forget the name of it though.

well ive been thinking about a pro-touring look on my car, but i dont want to dish out the 600$ for the friggin GFX. maybe it would look good with a 1" drop on the stock IROCs and maybe a 275 in the back with a 225 in the front? will a 275 fit on a stock rim if its got a bigger sidewall?
