Ok here it is. i was wondering if there is a difference between the transmissions between the v6 and v8 firebirds on third gens, i know or at least think that the v6's were not 90 deg v blocks but yet they still have the same trans code and was wondering if they were the exact thing, I sometimes hear people saying that they change the tranny when they go to v8. AND another question, i just recently got a 4th gen firebird that i plan on using for my daily driver because my firebird is using too much gas to pay for and got it for pretty much nothing but the only problem is the trans is missing 1st gear and i am wanting to replace it and i don’t know a third gen v8 or v6 auto will bolt up to it because i have the resources to get both of them for next to nothing.

Now, so this post isn't entirely rude, the V6's are 60 degrees, the V8's are 90 degrees. Bellhousing bolt patterns will not match, and so you can't swap them. If it's a manual, you might be able to use a V6 bellhousing on the V8 tranny, but I don't know of anyone who's tried it. Again, serach for it.

 

yea i know all of those posts on 4th gens on this third gen site why did i not think about searching if a 3rd gen v6 or a v8 trans fit on a 4th gen v6 well thanks for some but not most of the information given. Also no it’s not a Manuel, I stated that it was auto
