How do you add up numbers to get compression ratio?

How do you do this without measuring tools?
Is it Piston + Head CC + Gasket size = ?

Also how do most engine builders degree there cams?
Is there another way to do it? I know pros use degree wheels and some other gauge they use to measure something on the heads at the same time? Valve opening and piston position?

Thanks,

It's cylinder displacement + piston dish (or - for domes) + gasket volume + piston deck height volume + combustion chamber volume

divided by.....

piston dish (or - for domes) + gasket volume + piston deck height volume + combustion chamber volume.

Everything must be in the same units of measure- cubic inches or cubic centimeters (cc's).

Shoot me an email and I'll send you an Excel spreadsheet already set up for calculation compression ratios. Once you see it and play with it some you'll get the hang of it pretty quick. Play with it longer and compression ratios will start to creep into your dreams at night, like they do with me.
