Torque Converter Lockup

Alright I looked at the tech article on a TC lockup switch, and I've looked at B&M, Hurst and Painless wiring for their versions. All I want is to keep the TC in overdrive when I'm crusing around 45-50 and up mph. Any suggestions.

You would always want the TC locked-up all the time when in overdrive. Otherwise, you will overheat the transmission. If you want the TC unlocked in the first three gears up to 45 or so you will probably need a custom burnt prom for that. I have a B&M kit on mine that can be run just as the factory setting, or I can switch the lock-up off in the first three gears only.

Maybe I don't understand lockup. When I'm at about 45 mph I can feel the converter locking and unlocking. I want it locked in 4th gear, right??????

Fourth gear should be locked all the time. I have mine shut off for the first three gears all the time. Have driven like this for years with no problems. With the switch, I can always go back to factory. But when in overdrive, switch position is immaterial as the converter is always locked up. You may also be feeling this "bumping" as the EGR comeing in and out.

Not necessarily. It should shift into overdrive (4th) first, then lock the TC somewhere between 40-45. When needing additional power, such as starting up a hill, the TC should unlock first, and if that's not enough, it should shift down to 3rd. This from several vehicles I've had with locking TC's.

Either the contention that the TC must lock or the tranny will burn up is over-stated, or AMSOIL synthetic ATF is worth its weight in gold. I've put over 10,000 miles and almost a hundred runs on my Camaro tranny that had 123k miles when I got it, with a TCC that never locks, and it hasn't even hick-up'd once.
