ZR1 taillights
I saw an ad for a zr1 taillight conversion for camaros and wondered if anybody around here has done that. If so post pics.
Haven't done the mod, but I believe the company that makes the taillight conversion is Motion Glass Industries. I dont think they have a website either, but in the back of most Performance related magazines, you might find an address you can mail to and get a catalog. From what I've seen, the conversion does not have any provisions for a reverse/backup light. (just so you aren't supprised when you get it in the mail hehe). Oh yeah, the price ... in the $200's I think ..

Ick, no don't!
They make these cars look morbidly obese for some reason.

I like em too. When I ran a ZR1 rollpan on my S10 (now sold), I didnt have any reverse lights either. What I did was get a full set (4) of clear ZR1 lenses, but only used the clear lenses on the inside two lights for the street. Then I replaced the inside taillight bulbs with a dual fillament red LED setup, and drilled a seperate hole on the inside two lights and installed a white strobe. I hooked the white strobe to my reverse light. So during the daytime, the reverse lights would shine through the two inside lenses, and the brake lights still worked good. Worked good at night too (and had a cool Euro type look or something). Here's a pic of my trucks rollpan when I was at a club meet. This pic has all 4 clears on, sorry no pics of the street setup (though I highly recommend it). Got the lenses from www.sportruck.com

The ZR1 tail lights give that car an early 2nd gen feel. It'ld look real good with a hawk 5" spoiler on it (it would add to the early 2nd gen look).

I was really interested in finding a setup like that about a year ago, but since have lost interest. The way the license plate sits in there doesn't look natural
But hey, it'd be one way to put clear tail lights on a Camaro
Don't kill the messenger! I just wanted to see how it would look!

i am thinking about the hawk's 5 inch spoiler eventually. i think it would give it an updated early second gen camaro feel as well.
I do actually have backup lights, but they're pretty pathetic. The 4 bolts on the license plate are all lights. The top 2 are lite-n-bolts, which shine lights down onto the license plate for at night. They do a good job actually. The bottom two are just APC license plate lights, but they're wired as my backup lights. They are reasonably obvious at night, but they aren't at all during the day.
i also have a set of 3 clear taillights. When i originally found this taillight panel on ebay, carparts.com had both red and clear lenses for $4 a piece, so i ordered 4 red and 4 clear/smoked. 2 red showed up and 3 clear in the first month. After a bunch of phone calls and emails, i finally did get a full set of red, but i never got a 4th clear. I don't really like the look of the clear though anymore, so it's not a huge loss, but i definitely won't ever deal with carparts.com again.

i was also possibly thinking about adding these on:
http://www.corvetteamerica.com/main....OrderBy=PartNo
they sell them in 4 red, or 4 red and 2 amber.
here's a couple quick photoshops:

They kind of have a unique look, not so corvette anymore, and they sit on top of the other lenses, which I think is a good idea, because my tails look good from dead on back, but at a rear angle, they look too sunken in and this would help with that.
i dunno though. nothing appearance on the car is priority for a few months until the new engine is done.

Everytime this thread comes up it's the same.
I don't like it because it's not 4 little lenses like it is on the Vettes. It a whole big thirdgen tailight section painted body color, and THEN you have 4 little lenses. It doesn't flow at all. It's not clean like the Vette.
IMO

I think it'd look better on an all black car, but the way the back end is setup, it's just not going to be very flattering I think. Maybe if some work was done to make it sit seamlessly in there, but still... I'm glad to see it, though - a change of pace is always good

I think it looks cool and different. I probably wouldn't put one on my ride but I do admire the uniqueness of it

i like them...............they need work but i like them. say you made it seemless to look more like the vettes and cut small rectangles next to the plate on either side for some reverse lights then it would look bad ***. plus if they were prefectly matched to your cars paint.....
i want to see how one would look on a 91-92 z28 (preferably WHITE in color) with the highrise spoiler................anyone wanna photoshop?? :lala:

Ths might be a little late, but how about adapting an early 2nd gen style taillight that has the red out side and the back-up light intergrated into it? Just a suggestion, hopefully it's not too late for it.

CamarosRus, i was about to say the same thing! I think it looks cool as is, but the way the spoiler makes a triangle on the side makes it blatantly add-on. If it were integrated into the quarter panels and smoothed out with a highrise spoiler it would look kick-***! I have a feeling it'd look especially cool on a black car

Do they have those lens in split colors?
Red on top and amber on the bottom for the outer ones and red on top and clear on the bottom for the inners?

Could you replace the camaro bumper with a Firebird one, so that the plate sits down there? And then fill in the gap for the original plate with some sort of 'CAMARO' nameplate? I think that would actually look decent, kinda like how the 91-92 T/As got a big PONTIAC in the middle?

Can someone photoshop the taillight section black? It might look pretty good, and go w/ a 1/2 white and 1/2 amber center tails with red on the outside? That might look bad ***!

Hey Wriath...
Wraith: Did you get yours from Motion Glass or another vendor???
How much did it run you???
I think the color of the car has a lot to do with the way it looks, and I wanna do it. I think it would look awesome on my car. I've wanted to do it for years but never considered it a priority. Now I am running out of things to do.

That last chop might look better with some better integration...Maybe if the back side of the spoiler was black too, something else though....

I'm kinda liking that black one! Maybe if you put like a smoke plate cover on it and flip the amber/white lights upside down. Otherwise it looks good!

If I wasnt selling my car I might look into installing vette tail lights onto my t/a. But for some reason they look quite right. Are they actual lights from a vette or no? I think real vette lights. (newer style even) would look awesome. Get a dual ram air setup, the vette front end that would kick ***. Im sure it could be done.
