Alluminum Driveshft Question

I am going to buy an alluminum driveshaft off of a friend, the shaft is out of a 2000 SS, It is going in a 91 Z28. He said that it doesnt have a rear u-joint, my question is what u-joint would I need to mate this shaft to my factory 10 bolt. If it matters yhe 91 is an auto and the 00 was a 6-speed. Any part numbers would really help. Thanks guys!

i think they're the same u joint. if not you'd need one wiht one part of the cross to fit the DS and one part of the cross to fit the pinion yoke, that is 2 differant size trunions. anyone with a parts book ought to be able to see what sizes you need and look it up.

The u-joint should be the same. I put an aluminum driveshaft w/ u-joint from a 2000 T/A 6-speed into my '90 auto. Fit perfect. Swapped in a 6 speed of my own now!! (yes, the driveshaft is the same.)

Just go to Advance Auto or the like and get a REAR u-joint for the aluminum shaft and you'll be all set. They do have a different joint listed for the front yoke/shaft joint, but that one wasn't the right one for that application. I used the joint listed for the steel shaft in front and it fit.

The rear U-joints are not the same. I compared mine when I swapped my LS1 shaft in. The LS1 is a thicker, stronger joint BUT will still bolt right in place.

just a note, aluminum driveshafts work great till you hit a 200 shot of nitrous at 10 PSI of boost... I have the twisted remains of one sitting in the back of a pickup truck to be hauled to the dump
