I'm still working on it. It's taking forever, but it is almost there (I know, I've been saying that for too long now, but it's true). I will have some new series 3 carriers, 4.1 and 3.9 gear sets. If there is enough interest, I will get some more 3.73's.

And Miles, thank you! I'll probably need a new posi some time down the road. We appreciate your hard work in helping out us 9-bolt owners.

Just had a long conversation tonight
. I should have some new 4.1 gear sets and new series 3 carriers by the end of the week. Quantities are limited on this first batch (pending verification). When I have the parts in my hands, I will send an email to everyone on the mailing list.

Sorry George, but 9-bolts were first used in 1985 Trans Ams. They werent used in Camaros until 1987. They were discontinued in 89, they switched back to 10-bolts for the 1990 cars.

Really? Oh well, I am right on the Camaro subject.
I never claimed (nor cared) to be a Firebird expert.
Even so, 3.70 (nor 3.73s) were OEM available.

Umm, what about the Z28 H.O. motors, many came with 3.73 gears. Ohhh, and then there's the Blazers which usually came with 3.73's.
As for the 9 bolt I'm not sure, but the 10 bolt gears are easy to find.

Well, I'm stuck in the middle of my 3.70 gear install. The TPIS sold - Precision Gear so-called 3.73 kit is actually 3.70 (37 ring/ 10 pinion). Comes with a really crappy rear pinion bearing that I gotta replace and without the $22 pinion seal. Got the new races in after a battle and some quality time with my freezer, had the pinion bearing pressed on, and put the pinion in, tightened it up and got greeted with a klicity noise from a bearing that's NFG. Now I gotta find a pinion bearing someplace today.
If my pinion gear on the 3.45's hadn't gone BOOM I'd have much rather taken it back to MI for the Woodward Dream cruise and stopped in at Drive Train Specialists and had them put a set in. I called just for grins and the installed price wasn't much higher than just to buy the parts.
They sell 3.70's, bearings, etc here...

What really pisses me off now is that I had my hands on a factory 3.70 back in May at the Rhinebeck swap meet and I thought $275 (last chance on Sunday afternoon price) was a bit too much considering I didn't know how good the posi unit was and that it was missing half the brakes and stuff. Oh well...

Unlike yourself I like and know a little about all thirdgens. It's well established that 3.70s were available OEM on 85-86 T/A's. You can check with GM if you wish. Nothing more to say on this topic.
