lost to a metro ?!?!?! WTF
well as most of you prolly know (like you really care since it's not a third gen j/k) I broke the rx7 and to anyone out there that can hit 6000-7000 rpms dont dump the clutch at that rpm time after time again with a driveshaft that is going. trust me it will go one day but I now drive my 78 celica.
mods on the car include 3 tires in the back. a microwave and all my spare rx-7 parts that are stock ( tail lights, intake, exhaust and other crap ), thick black oil, studded tires, and aero fenders that flare out the faster you go (dont ask) still at 248k I am pushing about 150 comp on all 4 cyl. no airpump. no p/s removed a/c, CAI(if thats what you want to call it)
well I was at a stop light and this metro pulls up next to me and I am feeling good ok. figure it's prolly going to be a good race. I mean he is pushing about 1L and I have 2.2L and hell I am even modded right. so I rev my motor a few times and the looks over at me and just laughs and revs back. so here we are at this light both of us just reving our motors. my 4 cyl and his 3 are just pounding like mad and then the light turns green, dump the clutch get mad amouts of tire spin for a whole 1/2 a second and I'm off with a perfect launch. at about the end of the crosswalk I have 2 foot on him just flooring it. and I feel like I have a win comming up. he shifts into second gear and I hear his tires chirp and I am getting scared here. him and his mighty 3 cyl are gaining on me by halfway through the intersection.... oh sheit I think and pray for more power. hit the end of the intersection pullin about 20 mph still in first and he has about half a car on me by now. shift my *** into second gear cause I dont want to hurt the motor and all with how many miles it has on it and almost just almost chirp the tires but since I have good grip in this car to handle all the bad A$$ power I have I dont spin them and hit up about 2 feet on him by about 1 car after the intersection. we are now pushing about 35 by this point and he just starts to pull away from me like I was just standing there. I give it all I have and even let it rev up a little more to let the carb open up the second barrel. and I start to see he is not to gain anymore but damn he shift onces again and starts to pull away from me.... by the time we hit 45 he had 2 cars on me
damn bastard must have had more mods done to his car then I though...
next time little metro.... next time

you can always put a different motor in a car. plus wouldn't that be a great sleeper a freaggin metro with a tpi! put some extra mufflers on it to keep it quiet. think of the power to weight ratio you would get
but i'm sure people that know what they are doing can do some home made mods to any car also
if it was me i wouldn't have said a word about it

That's great! Not too many races I know take place in just the intersection.
I like the mile per hour, by mile per hour breakdown of the race. I imagine you were getting bored from lack of speed.

lol. Funniest thing I've read in a while. Almost as funny as my friend bracket racing his pos blazer at the track. It's so friggen slow that it takes 23 sec to do the 1/4. It was really funny, because he raced our other friend that runs mid 11s in his Z-28. The blazer was halfway down the track before the Z28 got to go.

You know, not all Metros are 3 bangers. The option engine is a 1.3 liter 4 banger.
Please don't ask me how i know this because it's an embarrassing fact to know!

Wow, that Celica is one of the UGLIEST cars I've seen in a while....
BTW, rx7, my friend has that exact model RX, with the exception of a few "speed holes" (large fender rust-outs)...he got it off of an old woman, we spent 30 minutes getting the nuts out from under the hood (where a squirrel had been residing)..pics to come ASAP.

Ha
one of my friends had an old celica back in high school nothing like reving it to 6k and droping the clutch (in every gear
)
AS far as the geo goes thier way a guy running a metro at the track this summer pulling consistant 12.6's at 4800ft=10ish at sea level. I dient get to see what he had under the hood, it dident sound mean or anything it just pulled very strong and whipped everyone he lined up against.
If I could I would have that geo running on the street.

Hehehe... the repair shop I'm at had 2 Metros in at the same time.. one was a 3 cyl. 1 ltr and the other 3 cyl. 1.3 ltr. That 1.3 ltr was much better than the other, it could actually spin the tires! LOL both were automatics too.

Yep, those Geo's can be made to go pretty quick. The Secret is that a 4-cyl auto weighs 1820 and the 3-cyl 5-spd weighs 1750. Trust me, I have weighed a bunch of the little bastards. After my techs finished with one, we could get it from 0-60 in a shade under 4 seconds. Don't ask me how; Trade Secret.

i have a 1.5liter 1990 dodge colt (ECI multi-port, no mods whatsoever, i've found my self spinning my tires for 2 seconds, i often times find myself shifting to 2nd at 35mph (not sure what rpm's, i don't have a tac) and i SLOWLY watched a 92 camaro RS pass me in the industrial park i work at. I'm preparing to race a geo metro, i think i'll win.
I know some of the Sprint and fireflys were turbo-intercooled. The one you may have raced might have been the turbo'd 1.0 3 cylinder with an intercooler!

Nope, We did 0-60 with all four wheels on the ground.
I Worked at a FHWA research lab, where we tested guardrails and such. We used what was essentially a gigantic slingshot; a big stack of steel weights under a tower, with a cable running up and over. Attatch the cable to the car, pull back and release.
The result, a Geo with 2000 lbs of thrust.

rolfmfao that is one of the funniest things i have evr heard, i want your celica, my friend has a 4 banger dodge ram(it might be a straight six) that would keep up with you, you guys should race sometime. when i go to eping in the spring i want him to come, he might just hit 25 seconds

I have one as a rental once it must of been like the one you raced - you know the SS model with the 4th cyl! haha
But really some had 4 bangers. That 3 cyl is funny I was working as a mech for a while and it was fun to pull a motor by hand no cherry picker.

I have to point out here that not all metros come with a 3 cyl engine... the 1.3L is not 3 cyl, it's 4. so that is why they run so much better... I believe the 1.3L has 70 Hp which should put it's 0-60 around 11 seconds.

hehe we had a rematch
I won
he remembered who I was as who the hell races a metro and we decided we would go at it again being that I told him I only have a motor the same size as his
it was bad I think I hit 35 and already had 2-3 cars on him this time
we both got a laugh out of it

I'm kicking up a lot of old post
so far the RX is doing ok
the heat is not doing to good as far as performance. I think a lot of it has to do with my open element filter sucking in lots of hot air.
still need to fix my exhuast leak, and get some new plugs and wires, my fuel mixture is off a bit, and my TPS has some flat spots in it.
other then that she is doing ok for the most part

Reminds me of some funny races...
1) the family's 82 Subaru 5dr wagon 1.8 auto vs. 198? Ford Ranger 2.3 carbed, 5 speed numourous times.
Same thing everytime, I would destroy him to 45 and then he could slowly catch and pass me thereafter.
2) Same guy, different vehicle. Subaru vs 199? Dodge Spirit.
Again, I would destory him from the light. This time, only to 30. Then, he owned my ***.
Damn, I loved that Subaru.
I'll have another one in a couple of years.

Well the Celica can't be as slow as that 23 second Blazer...
Damn...a fat kid could beat that, taking periodic breaks to catch his breath. 80s Aerostars blowing by...Push and Riding Lawn mowers pulling hard just ahead...Bill Clinton jogs past on his way to McDonalds...Iron Duke Fbody passes in reverse...Hybrid zips by...Tortoise and a slug pass, drag racing...

O.K...
I'm not going to say anything nasty to you because it would be like splashing water on one who is about to drown.
Well, I certainly must comend ford on aparrently dropping some major seconds on the Aerostar. wink, wink. Let's figure though, a Taurus, that is a lighter, more aerodynamic vehicle of the same year runs 18s- 11.? to 60. So what must a 140 hp 4000lb+ brick run?
It's not fast- not even for a van. There are quite a few vehicles that you could beat. True. That doesn't make you fast. That leaves you slow and them... slower.
You want to mod it, go ahead. I won't put you down. On the contrary, I'll commend you. But until then, don't talk to me about your fast minivan that my slowest cars could walk pulling a trailor. If you so much as hit a 16.9, a really, really, for real 16.9, you will find me quite a different person. That damn thing is a box. I've seen more curves on a Republican.

Away, knave (1986-87 Camaro v6 doofus)...
They are fantastic vans. I agree. But they are not fast. An a 16.? 1/4 mile time screams 8.? something to 60. Hell no, that won't go. Not to mention that I have toasted numourous vans of all different sizes...because they try me...must think they are fast...like some other people...My car could not break into the 16s at all. Not yet. And I realize that it would take considerable work to get there. It's good to know where you stand. I'm not going to paint a pretty picture and tape it to my face. So to speak. Then I wouldn't be seeing what's real would I?
Quality does not equal fast.
Lack of speed does not nessessarily mean poor quality.
Anyway, the post at hand...
I wonder how much hp one of these clown car drivers thinks he gets from a full paint job?? If stickers are horse, and urn exhaust is a mod...

Man RX7 why did you bother? I mean i have a friend that owned an 82 with 200,000 or so on it, running way rich, and in third (in a 4spd BMW 320i) passed him up hill at 20mph with out going more than 1/2 throttle. Atleast we know now that a metro can beat something.

back to the metro topic
What would you do if you got your *** handed to you by a metro and then found out that it had this
:hail: sc 383 with forged internals, 9:1 compression, custom blower/notrous cam, superram, cstom chip; 3 stage 300hp nos system(just in case); full 3" dual exhaust; 12 bolt rear; 3.73 posi; 10 inch wide meats; no back seats; and roll bar, or cage for safety. (what I want in a camaro)

hey man don't worry about losing to a metro, not to bash on your car but I think the celica's time was back then when it came out, somewhere before 100000miles, I have my horror stories of some races I've done with my honda here's my list of races
races won: 89 nissan maxima with 250000 on it.
races lost: dodge stealth, newer maximas, other honda accords, BMW, Pickups of all types, mustangs, acura integras, toyota camry, honda civics, lincolns, jeeps, motorcycles, 80's ford turus
and a grand prix
